Bent conrods

I am busy overhauling my 22R engine and have found that my no 1 and 4 conrods are bent(therefore the loss in compression) do you know if an engeneering shop will be able to straighten them(I know they straighten bent valves) Have anyone ever done this before and would you reccomend it

Danie, these are too critical to mess with. Replace them outright with OEM parts. The damage from con-rod failure can result in scrapping the whole sub-assembly. Not worth taking chances. :wink:

Danie. I agree with Andy. Replace them now and avoid tears in the future. :thumbup: :thumbup:

Thanks guys, appreciate the response. does anybody know where I can maybe find a second hand set(the financial implications of bying new ones from Toyota is just too stiff

i see you from secunda, the closest place i know where you will come right is at springbok scrapyard in springs (adjacent to the holiday in roadhouse - in town)


but i will not buy second hand----spend a few bucks and do the job right the first time

A bent conrods in better known as ashtray and/or beer can holder! No chance of straightening that! There are good quality aftermarket options as well, MasterParts and Alert Engine Spares sell decent parts in CT, maybe right Gemini in JHB...

You can possibly try MrTurbo as well, they advertise new Toyota conrods on there site, if they don't have maybe they can get or know where you can get...

Snipes,baie dankie vir jou hulp, ek het nog nie reggekom nie maar ek het deur hulle Gemini Parts se no gekry.Bel toe gister die ou by Gemini,wat my toe vertel hy het twee genuine Toyota conrods vir R699 elk(What a bargain,ek kort toevallig 2!!! :thumbup: )Ek vra hom toe om seker te maak dit is standaard 22R,en hy herhaal dat dit 2 splinternuwe genuine Toyota conrods is...., hou vir my die 2 se ek vir hom, ek gaan afvat by die werk ,die 160kilo's ry en ek kom haal dit more(vandag) by hom.
Toe hy my vandag die genuine Toyota conrods wys toe sien ek maar daar is n ooglopende verskil tussen my oues en sy nuwes(Wanddikte van die rod ens,die Toyota nommer verskyn ook nie op sy genuine spare nie :wth: Vra hom toe wat die verskil in gewig is tussen oorspronklik en sy genuine fake toe strip hy sy m@#r en gryp die spares en draai om en se dit is genuine en loop weg en help n ander customer.So- ek is nog steeds waar ek was, ek probeer maar soek na n 2de handse stel wat nie te bad lyk nie.O ja ek is glad nie impressed met AE se aftermarket pistons nie,Kom vol duike en stampe uit die box
Maar genoeg gekla-weereens baie dankie jy kan maar laat weet as jy op nog iemand afkom wat dalk kan help :wave:
