New Bank Notes

Post by Donkey »

Dear Jacob Zuma, if you're also thinking that one day it will be your head on South African money (coins or notes), dream on, your head won't fit, we don't wanna be walking around with A4 R100 notes :mocking: :lmao:

While we are on the topic, read this article:
http://www.hayibo.com/anc-slams-new-ban ... n-mandela/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Excerpts:
The ANC has condemned the design of South Africa’s new banknotes featuring Nelson Mandela, saying that Mandela was “a freedom fighter, not a spaceman as it is printed there next to his face”. Meanwhile, Jacob Zuma says he asked for Mandela to “look off to one side and not straight ahead, so that I don’t feel like he is looking at me and judging me”.
Finance Ministry spokesman, Phil T. Luca, said that it was high time that Mandela appeared on a banknote.

“Madiba has been a form of currency for years,” he explained. “We traded on his name during the Struggle, then in the 1990s we used him as collateral as we wrote cheques we had no intention of cashing. And now we’re squeezing the last few cents of political and moral credit out of him.

“I mean, we’re devaluing what Madiba stood for almost as fast as we’re devaluing the Rand, so it’s kind of appropriate.”

However, the design of the note was slammed by the ANC, which saw samples last week, each with SPECIMEN printed on the note.

“This is a flagrant attempt to rewrite history!” yelled backbencher, Yesman Rubba-Stampa. “To call Madiba a spaceman is to deny the 358 years he spent in prison so that today we might help ourselves to tax money as free men, and stay free men thanks to political interference in the judiciary!”

Fellow MP, Felo Impi, was less angry, saying that he had always thought Mandela had been the first man to walk on the moon. “Isn’t that what happens in ‘Long Walk To Freedom’? I haven’t read it, but I always kind of assumed it was about him escaping from Robben Island in 1652 by walking to the moon.”

But, he said, he was disappointed that the R200 note was the highest denomination. “Can’t they do a R50,000 note for when you want a Breitling but you don’t want to leave a pesky paper trail? We can’t help feeling this is very defeatist.”

Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela is reportedly pleased and excited by the notes.
