WC Oneday 4x4 trail - 21 April 2012

Middag almal,

Ek het onlangs die hilux forum gejoin en is nog heeltemal nuut in die 4x4 ding. Ek wil graag die naweek van die 14de/15de April net vir 'n dag 'n 4x4 roete gaan ry om bietjie die gevoel daarvan te kry. Is daar enige voorstelle ten opsigte van watter roetes mens moet oorweeg?? Veral vir iemand wat nog 'n beginner is. (Eks gebaseer in die noordelike voorstede)

En dan as daar 'n paar mense is wat bietjie buite wil kom en my kom join en dalk sommer tou wys maak is julle meer as welkom!!!

Clinton, ek stem saam met wat die ouens se, maar maak net seker jy gaan nie alleen nie. Ek is seker jy sal hier 'n paar manne op die forum bymekaar kan kry om saam te gaan.

Ek wil jou nie bang praat nie, maar wees net versigtig.

Die laaste draai na die piekniekplek is baie diep uitgetrap, en ons het in die laaste paar maande baie scary oomblikke daar beleef met newbies wat die verkeerde lyn kies, en dan teen die bult moet af reverse. En daar het 'n ou sy Hilux gerol op daardie bult so 2 maande gelede van skeefdraai toe hy ge-reverse het.

As ek in die Kaap was sou ek saamgery het, maar op daardie stadium sit ek (en my 2 partners) oorkant die grens..

Dankie manne vir julle terugvoer en idees. Right so dit wil voorkom of die Two Oceans trail dan die outjie gaan wees vir Spoor en ek.

Thys julle moet die trippie daar in Nam geniet. Ons beplan dit vir volgende jaar saam met 'n oranje rivier roei sessie!!! Baie jaloers dat ek op helderberg moet rond ry terwyl julle manne die nam geniet

Right watter manne/dames is in vir die Two Oceans roete???

Thys as jy wil join kan ons dit skuif na hierdie sondag toe... Ek het maar gese 14/15 April want hierdie Saterdag is Stormers vs Bulle en Kday so ja dit is uit en volgende naweek is die langnaweek. Dit los ons moet hierdie sondag en dan die naweek van 14/15 April....

So hoe lyk dit Thys kan jy Sondag doen? Sidekick, Stubs, Swartvark... Is julle manne lus vir Sondag trippie op helderberg??? Volgens yr.no is dit sonskyn en 22 grade Sondag die 1ste April.

Julle kan tot 'n fool van my maar maak so op die 1ste April in die berg...

As jy dit net die 21April kan gaan dan kom ek saam, was al 7keer daar op en leer elke keer iets nuut op die roete. Ry die 14April uit Upington en sl daai naweek in die kaap wees.

Hi Guys and auntie GI Jane,

Roofer - There is no fixed date at this moment. We are trying to get a date that will work the best for most people.

It looks like if we move it to Saturday the 21th of April (weather permitting) then we will be able to get a few people there...

So lets see who will be able to make it then...

Are we having a picnic as well? Are you allowed to do that on the route?? Val your inputs would be appreciated!!! So lets see if we can't make this a nice Hilux GTG!!!

Ok it seems that the 21th of April will suite the most of the guys. Sorry Ismail but more people will be able to make that weekend and not the 14/15th, but hopefully soon we will be able to arrange something that will suite you as well!!!

Val - Jip I read that they close the Two Oceans 4x4 route when its raining. So holding thumbs that the weather will be awesome!!!! I am guessing we can arrange who brings what for our picnic closer to the weekend when the figures are finalised. At the moment we are:

Ek het op 'n paar fotos afgekom van die Two Oceans roete net om die bywoning bietjie te help motiveer.. (Ek vra onverskoning vir die nissan wat die prentjies bietjie spoil :evil: ) Dalk kan ons daardie naweek 'n paar ordentelike fotos neem vir hulle website.

I have never had trouble at the last clime to the top. Stay to the right and keep off the loose rocks as much as possible and everything will be fine.

Pick your gear, choose your line, keep momentum, try to avoid wheel spin, engage diff lock and you will be at the top in no time.

I will join on the weekend of the 14th/15th will be bringing a newbie will.

Hi there Andrew,

The date for the GTG was moved forward to the Saturday the 21th of April as more people will be able to make this date. If possible please see if you can also move your planned trip rather to the 21th because then we would be a nice group together.

I am also a newbie so then atleast there will be 2 of us!!!

Think it looks more like we will be doing the trail on the 21st. Hope you can still make it that weekend.... Actually find that, that last hill climb changes every time I've been there. The last time you had to move across from the right to the left half way up because of the erosion on the hill and there were no more loose rocks they had all rolled down to the bottom from the vehicles wheel spins... Anyway we will see what it is like when we get there. The trail changes over time..

Andre we are driving the two oceans trail which is on the Stellenbosch road where the Helderberg Farm Stall is.... It is on the right hand side of the road going from Som West to Stellenbosch, just past Yonder Hill wine farm, a little slip road running past the Taste restaurant that is on the R44..... I'm sure you know the farm... Are you going to join us?

Some more info to get the taste buds ready....

4x4 route Details:

Distance: 12km
Duration: 1.5 - 2 hours
Altitude: 155m – 520m
GPS coordinates: South 34.01.57.3 East 18.50.01.3 at starting point
Road Surface: Mainly gravel
Points of Interest: Stunning views over False bay and the Cape Peninsula
Difficulty: Grade 2 – 4 difficulty
Open: Daily from 08:00 - 18:00 (closed on Christmas day and Good Friday)
Other facilities available: Picnic & Braai facilities, Tea garden, kiosk, playground and childrens' farm at starting point.
WARNING - No fires or gas burners allowed along route

Val - I spoke to Carien at the Helderbergplaas and she said if we are a big group that wants to ride together we must just make a booking. Therefore guys those of you that want to join us please add your name to the list so that we can give the figures through...

Had a look at the rugby fixtures for that day, because that is important for some people.... Stormers game is 20th, Sharks 21st at 17h00 and Bulls at 19h00.... so that leaves most of the day free...

So I think if we meet at around 10 at the farm house it give us enough time to do the trail, and either have a picnic on the mountain, or have a braai and kuier after the trail at the farmhouse and get home in time to watch rugby...

Any other suggestions welcome....

Val i agree with meeting there at 10 and then maybe we pack the picnic baskets just incase its a beautiful day out and then we can enjoy the view from the top!! Afterwards those who want to stay a bit longer can light the fire at the bottom...

So far the weather forecast for next Saturday looks promising.... clear weather all week.. just hope it stays like that. If anyone else would like to join let us know as soon as possible because I think we should book early in the week...
