Stop smoking???

Yes yes I know all the answers about will power, determination and all that and I am a child of God but I still struggle!!!

I need some advice, not the electric cigarette, expensive mouth sprays or pills or that, I have tried some of them and now can't afford expensive gimmicks - and tell me "but you can afford cigarettes

?

How did you stop smoking because I have tried everything but when I get behind my keyboard, drink coffee or drink a beer, I just can't resist?

I really want to quit - sounds funny but eish!

Dewald only because you are asking.

My mom smoked for more than 40 years. The last couple of years she got the flu, turned to bronchitus, sounded just like emphaseem .... ALL the signs were there.

In December 2009 she had hassles with "dry lungs" - completely the opposite of the flem associated with emphaseem. She spent a week in hospital, they could do nothing for her and she came home. Two weeks later she was back in. Three days later she had a mild heart attack and actually "passed away", but they managed to revive her.

The next week she spent on heart and lung machines .... NOT nice to see a family member like that !! Each time I see a smoker giving that classic cough I "see" my mom in her last hours ..... 13 January 2010 at 22:15 she passed away.

Get in contact with your local hospital, and support patients and families going through this. NO WORDS can describe just how horrible the last hours of a chain smoker is .....

PS - I have never preached to smokers, but as you asked for help I am posting here. This in no way is aimed at any other smokers. I understanf it is a very strong addiction and feel sorry for those caught up in this.

I have to be honest, I have dealt all that, been there done that and maybe I am just a weak one but not even that helped and you one 100% correct it is a drug addition, period!!!!!

i am still a smoker and tried various methods.3 weeks ago i got myself hypnotize. But nadda.i am still smoking.
I friend of mine used the following and quit a few people he knows did this program.it is expensive but apparently works very good.he is "clean" for 2 years now. i am going to give it a go. http://www.allencarr.co.za/method.html

Try Champix

It worked for me aswell as some friends.

Get a script from your doctor cost for me was for 3 months of medication the same as 1 months sigarets.

I tried it all before Zyban,Quit,Nicorett,Patches,Electronic Sigaret nothing worked until now.

Best of luck to you it is realy worth the effort.

I managed to do it stop smoking once after being a pack-a-day smoker for 20+ years, and it was all about the mindset. Countless efforts before that didnt work because I didnt really want to quit.

I had a relapse 2 years later, but thats another story... Peer pressure is a female dog.. If you want to you will stop.

Come on I thought you were a man of faith??

Ek weet presies hoe dit voel!!!

Ek het ook alles probeer, en dit was pure verniet en geld mors.

Op die einde (Oktober 2009) was my kop reg en dis toe al wat nodig was!!!!!!! Geen pilletjies, chappies, hipnose of akkupunktuur foefies gaan help as jou kop nie reg is en jy WIL ophou nie.

Ek kan nou al lekker gaan jag, braai en rugby gaan kyk sonder pyne van rokers om my....maar ek onthou nog goed hoe lekker so ciggie (of sigaartjie) geproe het by die kampvuur

It is all in your head... You must want to stop.

I have smoked for 18 years at the end I smoked 30 Cigs a day. You have to get your mind right. You must not tell yourself I want to quit! That decision must be
made already and then you must give up this bad habit.

For me it was not an easy 2 weeks when I gave up, but after that it gradually improves day after day.

As said above spend time in a hospital were cancer patients are for their last hours,During November 2011 me and my Fiance spent an entire weekend beside her fathers bed waiting for him to pas he was a chain smoker aswell and smoked 30 sigs a day,I can tell you I also smoked and after watching him getting weaker untill finally in a coma and then passing away is not something I will forget soon and I tell you I will never touch a siggie in my life again that is where your eyes are opened and that is where you realise what smoking actually does to you and that waht everyone tells you about smoking is true!I am also very mad at myself for ever smoking and if I could turn back time I would have never stared in the first place!

Manne manne manne - ek rook nou ook al vir 18 jaar en staan tans op 2 tot 3 pakkies n dag. Ja ek weet dit is malleguit.

Weet julle wat is nog erger - tel bietjie op hoeveel dit jou kos n maand en dan maal dit met 12 en dan met 10 = Nuwe HILUX.

Ek het ook al seker 30 keer probeer om op te hou - ek het wel geleer dat as jy wil ophou moet vir niemand se nie - want die ding wat n rooker die hel in maak is as hy probeer ophou rook en miskien nou lus is vir een en die mense om hom se - MAAAR JY MAG NIE.

Ek dink ons moet n support group skep op die forum - ons sit n datum neer en dan begin ons. Almal wat wil sit hulle naam op die groep en dan chat ons heeldag met mekaar en help mekaar. Natuurlik gaan dit gaan oor eerlikheid en op hierdie groep mag jy maar se manne ek het een gerook vandag of wat ookal.

My persoonlike rede is dat ek n pragtige dogtertjie het van 6 maande oud (ek rook nie naby haar nie - rook in die tuin of garage) en ek wil oud raak saam met haar en pa wil as sy wil rond hardloop en speel dit kan saam doen.

My sommetjie - R 23.50 x 2.5 pakkies = R 58.75 x 30 = R 1762.50 x 12 = R21 150 en hier kom dit x 18 (wanneer my dogter klaar is met skool en wil gaan swat) = R380 700

Boonste sommetjie is ook as siggies vir die volgende 18 jaar dieselfde prys bly!!! what ever

Ek dink as ons die groep begin dan moet elk een n extra rekening oop maak en elke week sy week se siggie geld daar in betaal en dit moet streng gedoen word - ek belowe jou sodra daardie rekening by die duisende is dan gaan dit vir jou n groot motivering wees. Dink net wat se vakansie jy kan he elke Desember as jy die geld spaar. Of self daardie Tyres wat jy altyd wil koop maar nie die geld het nie of daardie skuld wat jy wil toe maak. Ag manne die lys is oneindig lank ek weet ek kan doen om R 1500 n maand weg te sit.

Kom manne kom ons begin dit!!! Kry vir ons n groep leier en dan loop ons met die ding Ek stel voor Maandag oggend is die Tyd.

dit is maar soos almal se, wils krag en help van bo om dit daar tehou. ek het gerook vir byna 18jaar en 2 Des 2010 was toe ek my pakkie in die drom gegooi het en nog nie weer getrek aan n siggie nie. die versoeking is maar altyd daar met die doppie in die hand en as AL die pelle sit en rook. sterk wees is al wat ek kan se, die eerste 7 weke daar na is dit bietjie makliker, ek dink as daai eerste 18maande eers verby is, is jy 'genees'. dis maar sover my gevoel.

Thanks Hoppy for that amazing revelation. I believe Alan Carr's book is very good and a lot of people have given up smoking after reading that. I stopped for 20 years and started again 5 yrs ago, so those of you that have given up and think the evil monster has let go of you, don't believe it. A couple of glasses of wine and one dumb cigarette later and your hooked again. Anyway Alan Carr describes nicotine as a monster that wants to be fed. The idea is to not feed it and the craving subsides.... Really?...

Ek het niks teen rook nie, maar as ek sien hoe die rokers van my ouderdom longkanker kry, is ek baie dankbaar dat ek nie rook nie. Een van die belangrike goed om te doen, is om die versoekings uit te skakel. Los maar die bier en wyn vir 'n tyd. Sterkte aan julle manne. My sommetjies voor ek ophou rook het, het ook die volgende ingesluit:

Ek ry baie, so, elke keer as ek by die Cafe of garage stop vir petrol of smokes (meesal albei), dan kom ek nie daar weg met net die apkkie smokes nie. Gewoonlik het ek ook 'n koeldrank, chips, tjoklit of sommer net iets om te peusel ook geneem, en dan kos daau pakkie sigarette my nie net R20/R30 nie, maar dalk eerder nader aan R50-R100

Kom ons maak nou weer die sommetjies en dan skrik jy eers!!!

Ek het 20 per dag gerook.
Ek wou ophou rook maar was bangerig. Toe koop ek nie siggarette vir die spesifieke Sondag nie. Ek het my laaste ene gerook, opgestaan en kamer toe gegaan. Ek het op my kniee gegaan en vir die Here gevra om my los te maak van rook.
Ek het nie eers ontrekking simptome gehad nie en met Sy genade het ek nog nooit weer gerook nie. Dit was 2 en 'n half jaar gelede.

My vrou het met die allen carr boek opgehou rook. PM my jou email adres as jy dit wil hê.

Dit is nou 12 jaar sedert ek laas gerook het.Om op te hou rook is "all in the mind"Ek het net my kop gedraai en vir myself gese die besluit le by my of ek wil op hou of nie.Die 1ste 2 maande was nie maklik nie.As ek lus geword het vir n sigaret het ek net glas water gedrink.
Vandag kan mense om my staan en rook sonder dat ek lus word om te rook.

Die wil moet net daar wees om te wil op hou rook.Dit is alles in jou hande

Toe my Pa op gehou het met rook, het hy as hy lus raak vir n sigaret, die pakkie uit sy sak gehaal, dit net geruik, terug gesit en dan n chappie gekou. Weet nie of dit goeie raad is nie maar dit het vir hom gewerk, hy het 31jaar laas gerook.

Het gisteraand vir Adventures4christ ge pm en 'n soortgelyke voorstel gemaak.

But let's take it one step further - a year from now we take the money we saved and use it to go on a lekke weekend - sort of a celebratory weekend.

Dan kan ons mekaar lekker leer ken (die wat mekaar nog nie ken nie).

As ons mekaar gaan motiveer en ondersteun moet ons op een of ander stadium by mekaar uitkom al is dit net om blad te skud en "well done!" vir mekaar te se.

Ek't 'n tweeling van 4jr en my jongste is nou 15 mnde so ja, ek't ook goeie rede.

Die nonsens spook al lankal by my!

If you really want to quit, go to the doc. Get a script for champix. It's R250
The thing is u must want to quit. Take the tabs and you will quit.
I stopped smoking at the beginning of Jan. haven't touched a smoke since.

Ek het 18 jaar terug opgehou om te rook,ek het vir my n sak lolipops gekoop en elke keer as die lus kom dan suig ek n lolipop en dit het vir my gewerk.N dierbare dame by ons werk sukkel ook nou al lank om op te hou rook en sy het probleme begin kry en toe kry die dokters keel kanker by haar.Hulle se dis agv dat sy rook.Dis baie jammer want sy is n goeie mens met n slegte gewoonte en al wat ons nou kan doen is bid vir haar.Sy het nog n kind op skool en het baie rede om voor te lewe.

Kerels ek is in vir daai volgende jaar kamp, maar hier is 'n beter challenge, kom ons maak die mik punt om die Midmar te gaan swem volgende jaar.
Moet bieg, ek rook nog steeds di odd ene en ja dit is alles in die kop, my tyd is min, wel nie myne nie maar die gewoonte sin. Een ding wel besef, sodra ek bietjie aktief raak en eet o ja en minder koffie is die lus ook sommer minder.
So goal is set for Midmar next year this time and doing it with semi clean lungs hahahaha

Sal jou kom ondersteun by die midmar. Hier inni vrystaat ken ons nie sulke groot waters nie en ons groot swembaddens is soos julle "splashpools" so oefen plek is daar nie! Maar dit sal 'n goeie tyd wees om my Lux se brandstof verbruik te toets as ek teen daardie tyd die ombouing al gedoen het....

So today is D-Day for those of us stopping. Would really recommend the Allan Carr book on stopping smoking. Started to read it yesterday and it makes so much sense.... Good reading for the filight to Joburg.... Ciske, Thys, snuff out those ciggies... it's over.... the nicotene monster is not going to control our lives any longer....

Dit laat my dink aan 'n vriend van my wat ook gesukkel het om op te hou rook. Hy het permanent met hierdie klein plastiek pypies, wat mens in die "lucky packets" gekry het, in sy mond geloop. Dit het vreeslik koddig gelyk, maar dit het vir hom gewerk.

Day 5.... and am ready to explode

.... Up to know it has been a cruise.... Trying to keep myself busy and mind off smoking with this back seat project... trying hard not to eat everything I can see and turn into a big fat monster.... Went out to price camping fridges and wanted to beat everybody up that drove badly.... and believe me everybody was driving badly today.... Think I need to be placed in a straight jacket until this really bad place goes away....
