Gary, Adobe Photoshop is the only 'real' option for professional image editing. There is simply nothing on the market that compares, but the salesman was smoking something, you can get a full version of Photoshop for around R8000(CS5)... but it's pro software, there's no nice wizards to do the effects you have done above, you would have to learn the software to get the best out of it!
