Refurbishing steel rims

Post by Arno »

Hi.
I became the proud owner of a 1997 Hilux DC 2.8 TD. Alpine Turbo .
I am the third owner and the vehicle is in good mechanical order but was the family's 4th vehicle so stood outside for a few months, begging for a good clean up/polish ets. The steel rims are badly peeld. Being new in Durbanville area any recommendations where I can have the rims refurbished ? Would also like to have highlift mountings welded onto bullbar and towbar. Recommendations in this area ? Belville ?
Love this forum.

Welcome to the forum Arno.
I personally prefer sandblasting and spray painting rather than powder coating (hate the stuff ... always peels sooner or later, no matter how good the job). The beauty of paint as I see it is that you can always touch up immediately yourself if you get a chip which can happen with either coating, which if left, will start rusting (especially at the coast). Paint also gives you the option of metalic finishes and I'm not sure they can do this with powder coating. Just a different viewpoint. :D
Whichever you decide, have it done properly. It's not something that you're likely to re-do if you become unhappy with it, especially if the vehicle is used daily. :problem:
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Of as jy soos ek `n arm gat is:
Staal rims = R5 per band om dit van die rim af te haal = 5xR5 = R25
100grid and 300grid velle water skuur papier en `n staal borsel vir boor = R8 elk + R25 = R33
