DaLux introduces himself

Post by Dalux »

hey guys,
it's a very long way down from ZA, 'm from belgium,
i ride a 2008 hilux double cab, it's a ZA model btw, :)
my goals for the hilux are a hardtop as soon as possible, a winchbumper by arb,
i also would like to higher it by a few cm, harder suspension, and BF tires, 50/50.
i am not going offroad with the hilux, i got it because i need to pull a horse trailer, but i want to travel with him to.

i'm sorry for my bad english :)

Hi Davey and welcome to the forum.
Nice Hilux you got there, and if you're not going off-road you need not raise the suspension especially if you're going to be pulling a horse box. Horse box trailers are usually very low anyway and you would have to either build a gooseneck into the A-frame of the trailer or fit a drop-plate for the winch. If you will be travelling with the Lux, remember also that the drag co-efficient increases with raised suspension and results in poorer fuel economy. The ARB bumper and winch with wider tyres and more agressive tread would be a nice touch though. Just my thoughts  , but all the best anyway.

yeah the lift i didn't know quiet yet if i was going to do that, but now i don't think so :), but harder suspension i guess i could do that, yeah wider tyres, i cant go that wide, because i don't havethe wideners on the wheel cases, i have the S version, i already have coated the load platform with herculiner and i want some sport seats to.

Davy, if you have long periods of snow during winter, then the narrower tyres are sometimes better in that they tend to cut through down to solid ground, but if you have a lot of heavy snowfalls where it is thick (unlikely in an urban area as it is usually plowed regularly) then wide tyres help to keep you on top so that you don't sink down so easily. Nothing beats chains of course, but either way a more aggressive tread patern would be helpful. An experienced tyre dealer in your area who knows your terrain and weather patterns would be able to better advise you on tyres to suit your overall requirements. You may even prefer to have two complete sets for differing needs. If you keep a spare set, always mark them on the inside, where they were fitted, LF (left front), RF, LB and RB. Tyers wear in differently between left and right and between back and front. They also wear in accordind to direction of rotation (mostly on the leading and trailing edges of the tread blocks) and if they are re-fitted in the same place their life is prolonged. I believe that tyre position rotation is not really neccesary but if you want the whole set to wear down evenly so that replacement is done as a set and not just two at a time, then position change should be done between front and back on the same side to keep the direction of travel unchanged.
Just some by-the-way info, but I suppose you knew all that already :D

Hentey, I think Davy is talking about a canopy / loadbody lid or sportlid cover.
See viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6312

Davy it would all depend on your specific requirements. The sportlids / loadbody lids do not give you extra space like a canopy, but they look nice.

Much, much more robust .... can take a real hammering ... fewer linkages / arms / joints. Greatly improved axle articulation. The distance of extention on a IFS is very limited by comparison. This limitation is caused by the shorter arc of the upper & lower control arms and the resulting angles on the knuckles of the drive axles.
