Hilux SFA heater radiator
Several years ago the heater radiator started leaking coolant into the passenger footwell area so we temporarily disconnected it until we could get it fixed. I though it would be a few weeks rather than a few years, but that's how these things go. It seems that these things are now rare commodities and I haven't been able to find one through the usual channels. Any idea where I could find one in Pretoria / Joburg? The part number is 8710732040.

Hey, if you don't find one, you could always cox your heater and send your control valve down to me. My matrix is fine, but control valve rusted to pieces. Have been looking for one for years.

Haha, thanks, I'll consider that. If I find a control valve in my search I'll be sure to let you know

If I recall correctly, a Citi Golf control valve works...

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
The Citi Golf one does work. I've had one in Bulldog for 7 years, no problems.

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
Maybe I'm a bit dof, but someone mentioned the citi golf control valve awhile ago so i went off and bought one. Try as i might, i could not get it work, the valve opens the wrong way, i couldn't get the cable secured to the valve and the pipes were all in the wrong places. Who knows, but I gave up and it is now lying in my spares bin. Maybe it's time to have another look at it.
On another note, my bakkie is running beautifully again after replacing the head gasket. I think I had been driving on 3 cylinders for the last couple of years and on 2 cylinders for the last couple of months. I can't believe the power the thing puts out now. I had got so used to going up hills in 4th at 80km/h that I'm totally blown away that i easily pull up the same hill in 5th at 100km/h plus some

Unfortunately I can't help with any advice about how you actually use the Citi Golf valve, I just know that it is possible.

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
Hey, I believe you all, but like I said, I'm probably just too dof to see the solution. Being down at the coast, having a heater is a "nice to have", but far from essential.

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
Thanks Eric, helped some in that I see that I am not alone, but was hoping for some pictures of how the golf unit is fitted. I still have my original, but the pipes where the rubber connects to are rusted away completely, so even if I can get the valve to operate, it would still leak from the connections. I'll have another look at it come next winter. Appreciate your input, thanks, Peter

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
My SFA has been parked for m-a-n-y months and the petrol is more than stale. The rubber petrol hoses have also perished and they started to leak petrol. Currently, it is with a mate of mine who is doing some minor service on the vehicle, including replacement of filters and rubber pipes. I asked him to take his time and drive it, let's get the old petrol out. After 300km so far, the fuel gauge is still showing "Full".... guess I forgot to tel him it has a secondary tank which feeds into the main tank so it will only start a true indication once the main tank starts dropping. So I am unable to take a pic of mine at the moment. I will ask him if he can forward some pics to me.

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
He sent me these pics via WA, hope you can see what's going on. The Golf valve works perfectly, the old one had seized solid.
I guess the engine bay needs a wash...

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
Thanks for the pics. Ok, now I see why my golf one doesn't work, it is totally different from the one shown. Mine is also plastic. Obviously I bought the wrong one. I'll post a pic of it once i can find my spares box.

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
Which makes me wonder if I am not perhaps confusing Bulldog with my previous same shape Hilux with the 3Y engine, albeit a SWB 4x2. I sold that vehicle many years ago but I also thought it was a plastic valve, perhaps using rubber hose as connectors. Not too sure now but I definitely had it done in one of the two vehicles and it worked well, no problems.

Re: Hilux SFA heater radiator
Ya, that looks like an original heater valve.
My older 87 SFA had a plastic valve. I'll see if I can find a pic of the engine bay.
