4Y - Fuel Injection - Complete DIY Parts List

Post by Mr_B »

Hi guys,

I know this has been requested before, but recently some new members have been asking for a complete parts list, for EFi'ing a 4Y. I couldn't find(read: was too lazy to do an in-depth search for) the past lists, so here it is again:

3YE Fuel Injection Inlet Manifold - including injectors, fuel rail, throttle body and fuel pressure regulator

Dictator ECU + wiring harness

Dictator Igniter Box or equiv TP100

Dictator Mag Adapter - for magnetic pickup distributor mod

Distributor Options:
- Best option: 3YE Dual Magnetic Pickup Distributor, the one with the pickups sitting at same height, 90deg apart
- 2nd Best: 3YE Single Pickup Dissi, with 2nd mag pickup below at bottom of dissi, requires more modification but does work well. The bottom pickup is mod'd and wired in series with the top pickup, the bottom trigger wheel is also mod'd to 4 teeth and aligned to top trigger teeth
- 3rd: VW Hall Sender Disi, the VW disi is welded onto a 4Y pickup base.
- Other options do exist, like a Luminition optical pickup setup.

Water Temp Sensor R 89.98 (another 4Y one, like Echlin, and adapter if needed)

2 wire Idle Control Motor Valve (VDO - Kombi 2.5)

Bosch HP Fuel Pump (0 580 254 9111)

Air temp sensor(thermistor, like the one used on the Camry 2.2i)

6,8,10mm(depending on fuel tank outlet) LP Inline Fuel Filter

HP Fuel Filter (GUD E18)

4 meters 8mm ID HP Fuel Hose (from HP filter to fuel rail, final length depends on were you fit HP fuel pump and filter)

A meter or 2 of 6mm fuel hose(from tank pickup to LP filter-HP fuel pump)

Decent quality hose clamps(like Wurth, please not the 'RSA' brand)

Fuse box, if you want to run seperate fuses for ECU, injectors and pump

Relays & Holders, to run ECU straight from batt, not of ign.

Terminals, Wire, Rip Sleeving, Fuses, etc.

Some decent auto wire, solder, soldering iron, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 6mm heat shrink

Cable Ties of various sizes...

Optional Extras:

- Surge tank and applicable piping
- Fuel tank mod to 12mm feed for HP pump, to minimise cavitation and pump noise
- Air fuel ratio(Lambda) sensor - depends on your ECU, some need one, Dictator does not
- RS232(serial port) cable, and USB-Serial port adapter if needed, for tuning via laptop

If I've missed something please add it!

If someone wants to run a wasted spark system ie. no distributor and coil pack, I can supply a 60-2 crank pulley with sensor, sensor bracket and coil pack inc ht lead set.

Or alternatively I will do some homework on the pricing of a complete bolt on system including;
ECU-No need for mapping
Wiring loom
Sensors

This system is fitted to the Chinese 4Y vehicles and we are agents for one of brands. This stuff is new and we have had no issues with the systems other than owner/driver abuse This system runs a Delphi computor and wasted spark. OR

Check out the scrap yards. The GWM runs injection but with a Bosch management system.

With a wasted spark setup, if you choose to use a Dicktator ECU, then you will need the wasted spark ECU:

http://www.dicktator.co.za/wastedsparkecu.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In terms of a 4Y, wasted spark is not needed! Batch firing via the std Dicktator ECU works 100%

With the Delphi system my clients are getting 7-8km/lt loaded with 14 passengers and the vehicle has a high roof. Motor is limited to 5500rpm and runs open loop lamda control as well. And this is running the cat as well which we later remove. I havent really noted what the guys are getting with the dicktator...

How does 8.6km/l sound on the latest Efi I done about 3 weeks ago(Speed Ave 105km/h). Mine runs about 8km/lt, still have to dyno mine, the engine has only 7890km on now.

Mr_B that is about all what you need that you mentioned, only thing is time. No need to make it wasted spark.

Hi All,

I would like to know if someone out there could possibly assist me with some pictures of the aforementioned VW distributor modified to fit the 4Y Hilux engine.

Thanks in advance...

The best option is the 3/Y/4Y double picup Dizzy that you do the rotor phasing. The VW option I had was not reliable.

I agree with Louis. The VW option involves alu welding the top section of a VW dissi onto the base/shaft of the 4Y dissi... probably an expensive way to go and the 3YE dual pickup dissi has proven to be very reliable.

Hi Guys, thanks for the responses. Decided to go with an old 4y points and condenser dizzy. Removed the vacuum advance diaphragm, locked the shaft so that it cannot move to the advanced position. Got hold of a Bosch hall sender and pick up plate which is going to be mounted inside the old points and condenser dizzy thus eliminating the need to weld the Vw dizzy on to the Toys base plate. I will upload some pictures as soon as this is done
