1988 Toyota Truck 4x4 half shaft removal/install
HI
1988 Toyota Truck 4x4 original owner 217,000 miles
I'm looking for more in depth info (that my OTC manual can't provide) on how to remove and replace the half shaft cv axles. I'm working on this truck for my Boss, trying to help him out.
I have done my own 95 4runner half shafts years ago, and remember it was a PITA, because the OTC manual didn't provide much info on the procedure, so it took me all day to do.
thanks for any help. I appreciate it, and any pics would be a great help
thanks again:)

Hi Dwayne, you can also try YouTube, they have some neat clips on this subject (those by "WheeliePete" are pretty good.)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

I appreciate the link, but this truck has cv axles, like my 95 had. I think I found some useful information , thought I would share the linkniclemaitre wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3Y5bQG ... AB3AD7C1AE

Well, after 26 years, I'm doing the 1st cv axle removal/installation and new shocks on the front of this Toyota. I believe they are original parts

FYI the cv joints in the front axle on SFA Toyotas are called Birfield Joints. Its a type of cv joint.
Happy trails

I have worked on Barfield joints before, much easier than removing the cv axles imo

Yup that one we saw. Your guys got the nicer option of engins. Here you only got the 2.2lt and 2.4lt with the carbs, there you had the 2.4lt on the SFA as the Efi and then later the 2.4 Efi turbo.
But in al these Hiluxes are still great and well known for its durability.

Well, I think I will bring this thread to a close...
I have completed the cv axle removal, and replacement, along with new front shocks, and steering damper. It took all day Saturday to do the job...but it is done...
thanks for all the input/help I appreciate it.
I will not be a stranger here...I will be lurking around, snooping, and having fun.
thanks again
Cheers!!
