I have a Hilux which I have rigged as our holiday, boat tow and over landing vehicle. Very tough and reliable.(Virgo D4D 2012) During the last 2 decades I have had various bakkies including Hiluxes (2.8 Diesel Donkey, 2.4 Diesel very good, and two much older models)
I have also had other makes of bakkies which were all used as our all purpose vehicles. The two last ones being a colt 2.8 club cab 4x4 and 3l diesel Mazda 2x4. Also Had the SIL Ford Ranger4x4 on the farm
I have just gone back to Hilux for our farm bakkie in the form of the V6 4l.
I dont want to get into a brand bashing argument but I think that I am qualified to say that all the Hilux bakkies have proved themselves to be the tougher bakkie giving the least amount of troubles over the years and continue to do so.
Some of them have been donkeys but strong donkeys.
I have found that ALL the other makes of bakkies I have used and that were subjected to my lifestyle have failed when comparing it to the Hiluxes.

I am a closet Amarok fan! I would love one of the auto models for general town driving, but then would get back into my Hilux when I go on holiday...there, I said it!

Must admit I share this affinity too, but never at the expense of one of my Luxes, ever!

Re: Hilux Stays at the top for me
I also thought about buying an Amarok but.........oh the problems they have been getting everything from electrical glitches to gearboxes, back axles, paint, fan belts coming off and pulling off the cam belts and recalls.
Check out the Amarok forum...jeez
Too old for all that hassle I`m sticking with Hilux.
