Hilux 2.5d4d White Smoke
Hi guys, i suppose there are a lot of discussions about white smoke from a cold diesel engine, but mine just did it now for the second time and when its hot, it stops the smoke... is this something i have to worry about? Anything i can do to make it better?

How many kilos has your lux done? White smoke at cold start in a diesel usually means unburnt diesel which could point to your injectors.

I was under the impression that black smoke is unburnt diesel and white smoke
is engine oil.
Only reason I say this is that when I press my pedal to far all I see is black smoke comming
from the exhaust.
is engine oil.

Re: Hilux 2.5d4d White Smoke
I read earlier that there are 3 different tipes of smoke; black, blue and white. Basically explained is that:
black smoke is either caused by over fueling (driving hard) or a faulty turbo.
Blue smoke is the bad one, caused by either piston rings worn, or headgasket blown.
White smoke is pure fuel not being burned in the combustion chamber, this is a cause of either worn glowplugs not heating up the fuel before burning it or sludge/glazing around the valves. This can be rectified by a good engine flush and fuel cleaner.
Now, I have only noted this white smoking when the bakkie is cold and then goes away when it gets hotter. There is also a slight misfire but also goes away when on temp. This is the indication that the glowplugs needs replacing or just a good engine flush and proper service. After speaking with my service advisor, he mentioned that they Do Not flush any engines before a service, this is a second sign of what i think might be wrong...
I have aded the PS23 Engine flush to my engine earlier today and will drive a good 150-200km before i drain the oil. I will keep you posted of the results...

A friend of mine had the same problem with his 3.0 d4d, it turned out to be the seals on his turbo that needed replacing

I hope its not the turbo but I'll start at the cheap root first...

Re: Hilux 2.5d4d White Smoke
Ok, some feedback on the smoke... I serviced my bakkie this weekend after driving about 200km. The oil came out thick and black... After starting it up this morning I could not see any White smoke when I drove while it was still cold and my wife also did not notice any smoke when she drove behind me. So I recon thats sorted...
