End of 2008 (Dec) trail/function - 13 Dec 08 Takbok

Post by Niel »

The winter and #@!@% weather is almost over and we can all get out there and drive a bit more than we have the last 4-5 months.

So what is a nice trail where we can have a bit of a party afterwards (braai) that is not that far from CT (say 150 km from)?
There will be no excuses accepted if you don't attend. Kla :!:

So suggestions and for:

I am definitely in, but can we explore more venues? Reason why I am asking is that we already did the Tierkloof trail this year and there are so many other nice trails around CT in a 150km radius that we haven't done before.

Niel, can we not add a poll to this thread and list the 4 weekends in Dec and let the guys put down their preference? Or alternatively let everybody who wants to go along say which weekends they prefer.

I also think we should aim for the last weekend in Nov/first weekend in Dec because after that it is just silly season with work functions and piepie-ups and people going on holiday etc etc

I am in for the last weekend of Nov up to 2nd weekend in Dec...

I'm keen to join the party, always wanted to do Takbok. The end of Nov/ beginning of Dec would suit me perfecly (Chalene will just have to get the picnic basket/cooler box ready!).

So thats my vote then:
Takbok
either 29 Nov, 6 or 13 Dec

i voted for the 6th Dec, but i will aslo be available for th 29th Nov and 13th Dec if those dates are better suited to everyone that is to attend.

There isnt a poll for venues so i put my suggestion in for Takbok as it is relatively close for all and there are lekker braai / lappa area.

And its in a wineland area, which will make a lot of people feel more comfortable in their surroundings! :D:

Somehow i can see a date been chosen by flipping a coin if nobody else votes!

Richard I think we can safely say that Takbok is the best suggestion we had so far, and I suggest we stick with it. As far as dates are concerned, I reckon we should aim for earlier rather than later. You know how hectic December can get with all the work parties and stuff...

i've never been to Takbok, but friends that have been there say its a nice technical sand pit play area with a mountain trail on the other side of the road.

i've been looking for an excuse to go there and now have found avery valid reason.

i agree on 'the earlier the better' for the same reasons.

It will also be a nice place for Chalene (and myself) to learn a bit more from all the experience that you guys have.

Just for a bit of clarity:

If the poll runs till 8 Dec 11:59am, then wont that cut out 29 Nov and 6 Nov from the actual options?

Ok, sounds like fun! I've done TakBok sand route, if it's wet it's fun, else it's alot of sandy axel twisters! I've never done the mountain route though!

Well then let hope for a bit of rain just to spice it up! i wont mind now that i got a radio from Family Dog, so no more shouting out the window or running uphill to find out if its clear!

The mountain route offers a few lovely steep climbs over loose ground and one particularly challenging descent. This is where the pre-trail tips from one of the other topics comes into play. Its a very interesting read that hopefully most have had a look at?

Does anyone know what cost will be involved? Will this be just for Toyota vehicles or are others welcome as I have a few friends who are interested in joining us.

I have no problem with other makes of vehicles joining us on this trail. We must always remember not to alienate drivers of other makes, but rather try and convince them to convert to Hilux vehicles by showing them the superior capabilities of our Hilux vehicles.

Good thing we hear about his now. Be sure to ask paul about this Niel, and if his answer/explanation is not satisfactory we go somewhere else, like Babylon's Torin or one of the other trails on the list.

We did this trail about 18 months ago and it was great, but I think the route owners have since become a little complacent as they have standing agreements with Colt/Jeep and other retailers to take their clients for 4x4 training, which is done on the Sand trail and the "obstacle" course. The mountain course is challenging but if it is not properly maintained it can be dangerous.

its a shame when trail owners neglect the individuals and dont show interest :(

So Thys, are you nominating Babylostoren? If so i'll second it, or i'll put a nomination forward for Glen Oaks (dont know if thats too far to travel but Voorhoede isnt that exciting...aparently!)

Agreed Richard, but let's see what Niel comes back with after talking to the trail owner, then we can come up with other suggestions if that is a no go.. I am not particular about any alternative trails, I am willing to go anywhere..

I spoke to Janene this morning who now manage the bookings for the Takbok trail.
There is a lapa and or a clubhouse that we can use.
The cost per vehicle is R 120(if more than 10) - R 150(if less than 10)
Bring your own DRINKING WATER

I have provisionally booked for 13 Dec 08.

There are two trails that can be done and it consists of 7 km sand track and a few obstacles and an 11 km “mountain trail”.

If we are 15 vehicles or more they will close the trail for us.

Please let me know who will be attending and how many people will join you on the day.
We can do payment later. This event is open to non hilux owners as well.
