Snatch rope

Bought this snatch rope from Rope World in Diepriver. Its suppose to be rated at 13tons. Anyone used it before?

what did it cost you? you should try southern ropes. they make and sell these type of goods.
I still want to go and get me a nice loooong one. so I can snatch that metallic Tuna of Dirk(huismoeles) from a distance.

No tag. They make up the the snatch rope at their premises. According to a few members on 4x4community it is good quality snatch rope. Guess I will only find out once I need to be recovered

Cost of rope

R550 for the rope. Its 8m long. And I bought two 3.25t shackles, think those cost R45 each. I have been to Southern Ropes before. Got some military grade rope offcuts for cheap just to keep in the bakkie. Pulled an Iveco flatbed and 8m long trailer loaded up a gravel hill because he had no traction with that rope and it held.

Is it the 28mm or 32mm rope? AFAIK the 28mm is rated at 8tons and the 32mm are 16tons

Its 26mm. Gave Southern Ropes a call now. 24mm is 12t and 26mm is 13t. I asked them for a quote out of interest. 24mm 12t 9m = R800 and no stock of 26mm 13t.

Just some info I found out. Most kinetic rope comes from France although Im sure some Chinaman started copying it already. After it gets imported all they do locally is form the knots on the ends and add a protective sleeve. After that everyone just adds their mark-up.

It's called splicing and I did it as well. You pay per Kg of rope you buy and then you cut the rope up in lengths. You need about 12m rope to create a 9 to 10m strap. And the splicing took me +- 4 to 6 hours per rope.

The advantages of the rope is that you can use it multiple times in a row as the fibres in the rope does not stretch etc, it's the weave of the rope that allows for the kinetic energy to build up

Thanks did not know that. I see you also have the standard Raider bullbar, what points on there do you use to recover with. For the rear Im going to buy a ball and hitch setup.

I've added a recovery hook but I prefer to use the two big holes / loops in the front uprights

Depends on the situation. Best would be to use a bridal and share the load between the two points especially when doing a snatch recovery.
