Tyre Issues Bridgestone Dueler

Post by Nick S »

Howzit Guys

I have had my lux for 2 months. The car was perfect and I had no issues.
I took it for a 5000 km tyre rotation after which, at speeds of between 80km/h and 120km/h the steering wheel started shaking badly.

I took it back to Mintys in Bedfordview, who adopted a "the bigger the problem, the bigger the hammer" approach and they put loads of weights on the wheels. This only slightly improved things.

I then took it to Super Quick. who told me the tyres are defective and changed all 5 for me free of charge. I know my brother has the same issue with his lux and his Duelers. Has anyone else had an issue?

I also have a set at the moment.
I must say, never in my life again
I had problems from day one with punchers.
The sidewalls are also a problem. Very prone to damage.

I cannot wait for the day when they are done.

I am quite sure that your van is fitted with 694 Duelers. There is a huge differance between the 694 and 697 series. You must ask yourself the question.Do i need a harder tyre that gives me more. Kilos but which is slippery on a wet road or do i need a tyre which is safety on a wet road but get less kilos. The choice is yours

Hi Lollie,

You are correct. I've got the 694.
I can understand the softer tyre will be more prone to wear and it does have very good traction on rock, gravel and tar. Sand driving I am a bit disappointed.
It is the reliability that is not very good although the tyre is highly rated.
If these tyres only see a screw or nail laying on the side of the road the go flat.

Duelers A/T tyres are good on the tarmac and gravel but, in my experience, not meant for rock crawling, the side walls are way too soft.

My brand new D4D 4x4 Hilux with Duelers had the vibration at 110km/h.. Dealer sent the van to bridgestone, they changed 1 tyre, still same the problem..

They ended up fitting 5x Michilen LTX A/T2 on my Lux, been perfect ever since..

I find the Michi's a touch more noisy, but they are so smooth. And the wet weather perfomance is far superior than the Duelers..

Did not use the Bridgestone off road, but the Michi's performed pretty good off road..

I had the 694's in 265/75/16 and they gave me good kilos and performance in sand (namibian dunes) and wet roads. I would fit them again if I drive more long distance. It's a good all round tyre.

I opted for something more unpractical to ensure the wife don't drive the Tuna when I'm gone, so I fitted KL71 muds and I don't see me running anything else for a long time :D:

PS: my plan didn't work, she likes the aggressive look :slap:
