Drain and filler Plugs on Gbox and Tcase

Post by Big D »

Hi All

Two part question:

1. I have a stuck Filler plug on my Tcase, that I cant get out! Stripped the Head round. Hit it with a "Chisel" and hammer. Nothing! What to do to remove?
2. Where in Pretoria can I buy decent drain and fill plugs for the Gbox and Tcase. The OEM ones are really crap. I would like some with magnets, but think I'm "pushing my luck". What is better, normal Hex head , or "Allan key head"?

Dankie!

Weld a nut on to the remainder of the old plug, the heat of the welding is usually enough to free it and if it doesn't you can used the new nut to turn it. AFAIK the OEM ones do have magnets.
Happy trails

Thanks, But looking for any other supplier?

The Head on the OEM ones are +/-3mm thick. I think that is one of the reasons one strips it so easily. Or does Toyota have a decent plug, maybe a different part no to the original SFA part?

Deon... same happened to me... stick with the OEM as it has the magnet in.

Do yourself a favour and buy a King Tony or Gedore 24mm socket and don't use any cheap socket set as they tend to stuff up the nuts

IF you're going to do arc welding on the bakkie remember to remove the battery ground terminal and disconnect the alternator just to be safe.

deon,

just a tip:

when welding on a engine/gearbox-remember to put the "skelpie" as close as possible to the welding point and on the same casing-not on a shaft or moving part of this engine/box!

the reason for this is that the current normally follow the easiest/shortest route and might damage bearings or internal parts.

oh and something else:

take a 24mm socket(can be a cheapy, but preferably new) and cut/grind of a few millimeters off the front-this will give nice grip on the "flat" toyota nut!

En vir ekstra safty, wanneer jy sweis, spray die omligende gedeeltes met silicon spray.

PS: ek het daai af sag trick getry met die cheapy socket en in my geval het dit nie gewerk nie :(
