Natures own spectacular light show
So I was sitting in my little home office in the incredible heat, sweating up a storm.... oops no I mean, women don't sweat they glow, that's right. So I was glowing like a little (maybe medium sized) glow worm..... and I looked through the glass doors and saw clouds accumulating.. Thought maybe a storm. I know we don't have real thunderstorms in the cape, but I have seen some amazing lightning storms over the sea. So at 5.00pm grabbed a camera and headed to the beach...
Okay so I am not going to post all 700 shots I took, but it was like watching a theatre production, as the sun moved closer to the horizon, and the clouds moved over the scene, and by sunset there were'nt many clouds left... a few drops of rain... a little bit of rolling thunder, and only 1 flash of lightning, that I saw and missed... I finished shooting at 8.30.. I am going to post them in sequence that I took them, and have limited myself to about 15.

Re: Natures own spectacular light show
Quite an interesting evening.... A guy was taking a whole lot of photo's of his pregnant wife, belly exposed, with the amazing seascape behind her...
By the time I left the beach there were still 2 or 3 surfers in the water, waiting for the last wave of the evening, and although the traffic of people had diminished somewhat, there were still a few keen walkers. Most people were walking with their eyes pealed on the sky and sunset.. many stopped to take photo's with their phones...

Hee hee Hoppy... very funny... It's only my boerebeskuit recipe that is a trade secret, passed down from generation to generation.....Tonto wrote:Hi Val,

Thanks Andre. I used a Canon 5dmkIII, with a 24-105 lens... I shot all at f22 at 24mm, using 100 ISO... obviously shutter speed varied depending on the light, but I wanted depth of field and also not grainy shots so the iso 100. I also used a circular polarizing filter and ND graduated filter to try control some of the contrast and sharpness of the light... Shot using a tripod and a remote shutter release...
I was really impressed with the 5D because I have no vignetting at 24,, even with the circular polarizing filter on... I suppose with the 16mm or 17mm I might find some vignetting and fall off...

Thanks Val,
I would like to buy a better camera than my mik and druk, but as with everything else, too many choices!!
We live in a beautifull country, all we need to do is to see the beauty. And a good camera makes you look for it.

Re: Natures own spectacular light show
Thanks Guysl.
Andre I have a friend that put out a photographic book and the only camera she used was a mik and druk. Granted it was of people and their stories, but the photo's were fantastic, she captured who they were. We just need to look for the photographs and use whatever camera we have to the best of its ability... The shots are there we just need to find them... and as for living in the most beautiful country, your quite right. It begs to be captured...
