Cigarette Lighter re-wiring
Last week I did something silly. Cigarette lighter fuse blew and I put in a 20a instead of the 15a as I didnt have one at the time and was in a hurry. I figured I would buy new fuses later that day. But out of sight led to out of mind. It seems the back of the cigarette lighter make contact with metal and often blows fuses and didnt have time recently to strip and check it out.
A few days later smelt wires burning and saw smoke. By the time I stopped the bakkie the damage was done. From the fuse box inside I noticed the fuse melted and it seemed that wires had also melted. Last night I got to see that the cigarette wires are melted and need to be replaced. It seems they also affected the wipers as they dont work properly and also start to burn if used.
I think I may be able to work from under the dash but given its inconvenience wanted to remove the entire dash and work at ease.
Have any of you replaced wires in this section? Do you guys recommend taking the dash out and if so is it tricky to do that or can I easily access the loom and tarce it all the way back?

Removing the dash would be the best bet because you can the inspect all wiring running close too or alongside properly.

Aah yes, it was JohanM who removed the dash. I just could not recall who it was that did this.

Re: Cigarette Lighter re-wiring
Eric, I have stripped mine out completely 3 times allready when doing upgrades and changes to my SFA. Its currently standing with the complete dash in sections on the back seat as the wiring is going in this weekend and then i'll assemble everything together again and then it should stay put for many year to come!!Family_Dog wrote:Aah yes, it was JohanM who removed the dash. Re: Cigarette Lighter re-wiring
Eric it was an impulsive decision that is costing me so just want to restore staus quo.
I looked at the post on the conversion and my dash is fine so I rather not starting experimenting.
It does look smart though
