Budget meals.....!

Post by OOOOMS »

Well times are hard, fuel prices high (even it it has been decreased....a bit, not enough!) what budget meals / suggestions do you have, for home or camping :wink2:

Today I was asked to make supper.....me  As OOOODS was running around! My first thought was yes....pizza :!: But x4 pizzas would cost around R150 - R180.

What I made:
1 x onion - R1.00
2 x Corned beef / bully beef R12.99 - R26.00
5 X Eggs - R6.00.
0.5 X Cheese - R15.00
Total around R50.00 :!:

Ooms,
Ek weet nie wat gaan vannaand aan nie.My boodskappe kry ek nie gestuur nie.

Al wat ek wil se is dat jou resep my gunsteling is as ek langs die see visvang of as dit my beurt is om kos te maak.Ek gooi net n blikkie baked beans ook by.

Corned Beef is ook heelwat duurder as Corned Meat.Op die winkel rakke is Corned Meat altyd volop terwyl Corned Beef baie minder is.

There are hundreds of quick, easy meals if one uses a little imagination ....

As Chris mentioned, boerewors rolls. No fire, just do them in a pan with a little oil and some chopped onions. Once the boerrie is done gooi a little tomato sauce, chutney and a dash of Tabasco in the pan, stir it up and you have a sauce to go with it.

Bangers and mash is also quick and easy ... similar thing again, once the bangers have been done in the pan add a litlle water with gravy powder (Bisto) to the remaining fat.

Most pasta dishes are also quick and easy, one can do a macaroni & cheese or lasagna in about an hour including oven time.

Beef or chicken Chow Mein ..... also about an hour.

If you're pressed for time (or lazy), the Knor 'Pasta cook-in-sauce' range are very handy .... just chop some bacon into it.

Also as mentioned, the stir-fry frozen veggies are very handy to prep a quick meal, as are things like frozen chopped spinach, frozen chips.

;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Richard here is how I do it:
Fry onions in a pan till soft / brownish
Add Bully beef (I used 2 tins servers x4) heat up and dissolve at low heat.
Beat eggs x5 with some milk (like you make scrambled eggs) add salt / pepper to taste.
Pour egg mix over onions / bully beef in pan.
Add some grated cheese.
Simmer for approx. 20 mins with lid over pan
Server and njoy!

Next time I will add the baked beans, yes
