How big is your spade?

Post by pietpetoors »

I want to have spade brackets made and started to design something this morning.
But I then measure the "steel", shaft, whatever, of the spades I have and seems like there are two sizes.
Some has an OD of 32mm and others have an OD of 37mm

What is the diameter of your spade's shaft?

If I mass produce the brackets I will have to get a way to make one bracket for both sizes or only make it for the most common size.

Make the bracket for the larger spade and sell a plastic collar that fits into the bracket or on to the spade

You can make it with a rubber insert to go around the shaft?

Thanks, good idea, maybe those spongy rubber stuff you use to seal the doors. I can put a short strip of one that is 5mm thick and one that is 8mm thick and the client uses the one that fits his spade.

Something similar of a higher grade maybe as those tend to loose form quickly

That is a good idea Pieter. it will also prevent rattles and squeeks..  Ask Gysie about the high density grey stuff he used to mount my canopy with. That stuff is really firm..

It's not the size of the spade that matters, it's what you do with it that matters.

Make the bracket using a V and that wil take up the variable of the different sizes.
Just because it says "4WD" doesn't make it an off-road vehicle.

bicycle holder brackets - big enough, adjustable, and already has the rubber insert.

Thanx for all the feedback
Gaan jou brackets van allu, ss of mild steel wees,
Make the bracket using a V and that wil take up the variable of the different sizes.
Very good idea, I will investigate that one, thanx

I heard that one before, but what do they cost?
