HI all
I finally got a vehicle last week.
It has a 2001 model 2.7i toyota conversion in it, original ecu wiring etc and it has in total about 105 000km on it.
I am still quite keen to get some more power, but not at the expense of reliability. The hilux goes really well, but with a boat on it could do with a bit more.
My other option is to fit a 2jzgte motor which has a lot more power with about the same fuel consumption.
Danie from supratech will purchase the motor from me that is currently in there and fit the 2 jzgte.
Does anyone have any input as to whther to change to the 2jz , or would you leave it as it is ?

The only problem with turbo engines is that they do not perform well off-road.
Ask Ewald here he had the problem with the SupraLux Danie built, its a super racer but too much "uncontrollable" power off-road.

Great news on your "new" Hilux!
What model/year is it? A SFA with the Hilux 2.7i engine in? That should cope pretty well with just about any boat, unless you're talking about a large Sea-Craft. Pics?

Rather keep the 2.7 and fit a supercharger instead,
1992 Slightly Modified Hilux, 2008 VW Caddy panelvan work, 2010 Isuzu 2.5 td bakkie for work, a pair of big 'balloons' as well hanging at the rear of my Hilux

Try Rob Green Motors in JHB, he fitted one to the Colt Rodeo.

The 2.7 will be a little light for towing your boat. Also, keep in mind never to tow in 5th gear - no matter what engine, as they tend to strip under heavy load. (even the newer cars have this problem)
I would suggest another engine. Also, Rob Green is SUPER expensive. I don't know if you have enquired yet, but I am sure that you will not be thrilled. My rule is to never convert a standard engine to something it was not meant for. I will always rather look at buying an engineered turbo or supercharged engine that was designed for those applications. All parts are always standard off the shelf then.
I would suggest you stick to your original plan, and get Danie to do the conversion. I recall that you were not too stressed about the off roading bit, but wanted something that could tow and launch your boat with. Turbo power is the only way for those applications, especially in sand.
