Another KZ-TE head
Right so again during warm days, when doing a uphill at 110km/h my KZ-TE's heat gauge started rising. No higher than maybe 3/4 of the way.
Nothing serious and only really an issue when loaded + uphills + warm days. Noticed a drop in fuel economy, but no major other issues, went through the cooling system and the radiator cap was "moeg". After replacing the cap the BosMerc started to "hoes en proes" when starting the machine when cold, with a little smoke cloud. Not good
So Silverton radiators did a quick check and tested positive for air, so eighter the gasket or the head has cracked, answer this morning, head has cracked.
Pics below, getting a really good deal from Demo Engineering here in Witbank, replacing the complete head. (also from Italy like Louis')
Complete head goes for R7800 and then obviously gaskets etc and liquids to be added, getting labour for next to nothing, long term friendships pays off
Gonna have the radiator cleaned as well
What else must I remeber while everything is off and taken apart?

Re: Another KZ-TE head
Hi Henk, can cry with you, just replace my head 3 weeks ago, and had the same problem with heating on uphills. Flushed the radiator and found a lot of lime scale in the bottom part/pipes of the radiator. Seems like everything is fine now. Paid R 8500.00 foet the new head including pressure test and labour. What are the kilo's on your KZ now?

Klippies 288 000km approximately
Also having the radiator cleaned, and complete head done, hopefully all will be done by tomorrow afternoon.
Which head did you use?
You still have heat gauge rising on uphills?

Henk

Louis,
Nee was nie AMC head nie een of ander iets ander sal probeer uitvind, my pa werk vir Toyota hier in Witbank en hulle laat doen baie heads by die ou en met dieselfde produk het hulle nog nooit moeilikheid gehad nie. Glo alles sal nou reg wees.
Thanks vir al jou moeite

Louis,

It is critical that the engine and radiator is well earthed because the coolant/anti-freeze is getting neutralized and become useless.

Re: Another KZ-TE head
