General purpose, short overlanding within RSA and trails ..... EFI
Long distance overlanding ..... Carb
Carb spares much easier to find and a 'blou draad' fix is almost always possible to get you going again.
If an ECU packs up, so does your bakkie if you don't have a spare pre-mapped ECU.

am divided, had to do with EFI long before I lay a finger into a carb!! even modified EFI system on the GTX!!
at that stage would of said, EFI!!
however after the V6s and Webber carbs, EISH, those carbs have been so reliable!!
has any one here ever done a Lexus V8 with Webbers??
the simplicity of carbs that are well set up!!
divided!!

Carb - Nothing wrong with it, ease of maintenace, and reliable. The only draw-back is that the float bowls run dry on long steep inclines or side slopes, which could leave you in a spot of bother.. just ask Cassie.. 
EFI - can be very fuel efficient, will give you lekker woema, but if it is an aftermarket conversion, your setup is as good as the person who built/tuned it. Lots of people have lots of problems with bad tuning. In Africa (unless you know how to do it yourself) you are going to be stuck if something goes wrong.
I am with Andy on this, if you are off to Africa, overlanding beyond the borders of RSA, go carb. If you dont know how to fix problems with an EFI. For playing on trails within the borders of RSA and close to home, go EFI.

4y runs great with a 36 and a 22r even better with a 38. I love carbs.

Keep your carbs, I like my EFI and when you are driving up steep dunes or rock mountains you will wish you had an EFI.
Worry about the things you can do something about, If you can't don't worry.

Wel ek gaan die EFI roete gaan. As hy met my wil laat staan beter hy dit net doen as ek langs die see is. Dan kan ek maar aanhou hengel.
