Rev counter not working after diesel petrol conversion
I found out yesterday that my rev counter wont work after changing from diesel to petrol.
Apparently die diesel version picks up impulses from the injectors or something and it is impossible to convert that to work on a petrol engine.
Is that true or has some braniac here found a way around that?
I don't really want to put the aftermarket rev counter on my dash so are looking for ways to make the original speedo work.
If anyone knows how this works pls tell me as well :shifty:

Connect the rev counter to the negative of the coil....

Re: Rev counter not working after diesel petrol conversion
The diesel cluster and the petrol cluster interpret the signals differently...
The diesel gets a signal from the diesel pump the petrol from the coil.
I had the reverse of your situation - I went from 2.2 petrol to 2.2 3C-T diesel.
I just bought a diesel cluster, corrected the mileage and ran new wires from the cluster to the diesel pump output. The good news is that the plugs on the back of the 2 clusters are the same so you just need to identify where the feed comes in and splice into the harness. I still have my petrol cluster if you want to take a look at it.
cheers
Rick

Re: Rev counter not working after diesel petrol conversion
Thanks Rick
My only problem is you are a bit too far for me.
Now i have another question. I fitted the V6 old spec cortina motor and im wondering if i fit the petrol cluster will it be calibrated to the ford engine/ coil?

Good point. the toy rev counter will be calibrated for a 4 pot so you won't get an accurate reading. some clever dude will need to let you know if its possible to recal a toy cluster. try contacting Reef instruments in JHB for advice. if its possible I'm sure someone in CT can do the same

Re: Rev counter not working after diesel petrol conversion
Ja sifu maar nou werk my kop mos weer in te veel rigtings. Ek vermoed hierdie hilux gaan nog huweliks probleme veroorsaak
Ek het om een of ander rede 'n langer dif ratio as ander hiluxe so my 1low is soos meeste se 2 of 3 low so daardie ekstra LR box lyk na 'n goeie idee :wth:
Om dit verby vroulief te kry gaan 'n ander afere wees
