So here is my story. I bought the hilux 1,5 years ago. On purches they redone the fith gear. 3 months later the centre portion whent in the back diff. Another company redone the whole diff. From wheel bearings to center portion. 2months later the rear wheel bearing(so i thought) whent. Leaking oil into the brake drum. Send it to another companty(just round the corner of my office)Replace the bearing and seals.1 months later the center portion whent, replaced it my self and no problems so far 3 months later just before out of warrenty the leak is back, so they replaced the oil seal. Now4 months later it is leaking oil again!!
do i replace the seal again?
Check the diff if it is bent?
put in a gearmax diff for the same price?
Ok and im doing an avrage of 5000km a month and play off road at least once a month

Do you use genuine OE oil seals or do you use pirate?

The pirate stuff usually start leaking after about 4 months or so. You can replace the seal without replacing the bearings yes. Do yourself a favour though. Get yourself some red rubber grease and use liberal amounts on the points where the shaft will make contact with the seal.NicoP wrote:Dont know what the dealers used. i will put in the genuine OE seals on wendsday. if i dont have to remove the wheel bearing

Re: Rear wheel bearing leaking oil
Just stumbled across this conversation from a few months back. I was wondering if the proper seal and grease solved the problem since I seem to have the same problem. Cleaning the brake drum from all the oil is definitely the worst part of replacing the seal. But I assume your dealer at least gave you the right seal and not as in my case. Took everything apart just to find out out that they gave me the wrong part...
Anyhow, the seal still holding tight?
Cheers
