Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
I have noticed every now and then this question pops up expecially when somebody is advertising a canopy for a D/C SFA Hilux. I know that there were 3 different load-bin sizes in the Hilux SFA life-time ranging from pre-1990 to 1998 when the IFS Hilux came on the market.
The purpose of this thread is to place a picture of each of the 3 model load-bins and then take the inside measirements of each load-bin and put it next to the picture. That way whenever anybody is unsure whether a canopy/packing system/tonneau cover or whatever will fit on his Hilux he can come look here and find out.
I know Bretton has a "Pre-1990" shape load-bin, so Mr B if you would be so kind as to measure the inner dimensions of your load-bin, we would be very grateful. This load-bin is also known as the "Import" load-bin, and was known for its rust issues.
From 1990 to 1991 the D/C SFA was equipped with a "Local" load-bin with the lights at the bottom. This what made this model unique is the tapered corners at the rear (see inside the red circle on the picture) and the tailgate was more intricate. After 1991 around about the time the SFA got furnished with grey dashboard and interior, the load-bin shape changed again. This time the identifying feature is the square edge at the top. (See inside the red circle). Also in the country we find the fully imported D/C (Aussie/Japanese spec). A good example is Sheila which belong(ed) to George. The dimensions are totally different to that of any of the other SFA's. There SFA's were available from approx 1992 to 1998.
Dimensions (mm) 1470(w) x 1390(l).
I dont know if there were different shapes and sizes load bins in the S/C SFA models, but if anybody have the urge to take the measurements and post them, that would also be great.
Here are some other load-bin sizes for newer models:
IFS D/C loadbin:
Dimensions (mm) 1460(w) x 1350(l).
Vigo Hilux D/C:
If we do this right we can have a super sticky for everybody's quick reference pleasure...

Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
With a little bit more research we can build this thread out to have all the dimensions, inside and out for all the different Hilux load-bins that were available on the market.

Thys
I agree this info is good to have as I have been searching for measurements for the 2.7 sizes in and out for awhile now.
I have the SFA import and will post the sizes tomoz as I see we don't have that 1 yet.

Pre 90's Hilux Import Bin Size:
At last I measured the bin size of 1989 Hilux Import and here are the results:
L = 1440 mm;
W = 1440 mm;
D = 400 mm.
Please note that these are the inside measurements. The pressed sides of the bin are 30mm wide, giving outside measurements of L = 1500 mm and W = 1500 mm.
Hope this can be of use to someone.

Thys,
Thank you, this is great
Would it make sense to have/display the inner-bin as well as the outer-bin sizes

Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
As far as I am aware, the measurements are all inner dimensions for now. We can add the outer dimensions if there is a need for it, and it could be helpful especially for certain canopy styles where the sides hang over the outside of the bin to cover the tie-down hooks.
This might be useless information but I found that an alucab for a 2000 Ford Ranger D/C will fit on an early 90's SFA D/C as well.

Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
Morning all,
I am in a bit of a sticky situation...
I am sitting in the middle of the Okavango Delta (working here) and my Legend 35 D/C is in Maun, nowhere close to where I am.
I am busy designing a alu cab & a drawer system for the car, but I need some dimensions. I have no luck in finding these on the internet.
I do have the load bin dimensions - 1355L x 1465W x 400H - is this correct?
What I also need is the height of the cab from the top of the load bin -
and I also need the width, height and length of the wheel arches in the loadbin -
Can any one please help me with these dimensions? or know where I can find them?
Thank you
DaggaBoy

Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
Bit difficult to measure with canopy on but I see in my original article I said:
1,410mm long and 1,530mm wide
See:
http://www.pietpetoors.com/alu_canopy/2.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Do you want the loadbin to roof hight in the centre of the roof or on the sides?
As I said difficult to measure with canopy on but will see what I can do

Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
Hi Pieter.
Many of my ideas come from your design
Thanks for the measurements.
Can I perhaps send you my design and you can let me know what you think and tell me if there is anything that you would change.
This is the first time that I am designing something like this
Thanks again

Re: Hilux Load-Bin Sizes
Hi all.
Regarding the dimensions of the D4D double cab load bin, is there a difference between a 2008 & 2014 models?
Help would be highly appreciated.
