Hierdie is een van die "mag nie mis" trails. Ons wat van Joburg af kom sal miskien wil êrens oornag. Hoeveel karre kan die plek hanteer?

Re: GTG - Eland Safari Park Klerksdorp
Marius Dreyer was instrumental in the laying out of the original trail some years ago. I mentioned that there are some people from JHB & surrounds who want to come through, here is his reply:

Yup The Date Is Fine For The 4x4 He Said To Me That We Can Go If He Is Busy. Is There Any Of You Guys That Want To Do Camping For The Night. I Can Arrange That As Well.
@CRV Are You Busy Organising With Toit Or Do You Want Me To TaLk To Du Toit
@Family_dog Yes Bring Them Along. Will Be Loads Of Fun. It Was A 96'Raider That Was Used To Set Out The Trail And Most Other 4x4 Could Not Cope With The Koppie If They Were Not Carefull.

Re: GTG - Eland Safari Park Klerksdorp
Mark, I'll post the directions/coordinates here as soon as I get them. Those of you who would like my cell number, just PM me for it. The Trail is probably 10-15 minutes from town, so it's fairly easily accessible. I have not yet been there, so cannot say much, but it appears to be a nice trail. Being an old bang-broek, I doubt very much you will see me on the see-saw, but we'll see what happens when the big day approaches.
For the out of towners, Klerksdorp is along the N12, about 160km from Jhb. Allow normally less than 2 hours travelling time, but allow for the Gauteng congested hi-ways. Our roads are fine, we don't have that nonsense here
Can we have a list of names please? I will update them on the CF list.
Suidwes = Jaco
All the Oooxxs = Mark etc
CasKru = Cassie
Bfreesani = David

There is a photo of me in my Avatar, but I've changed my hairstyle ever so slightly since then...
Good idea Johan, my real problem is remembering the names of the people I meet...
Guys, there was a roadblock between Stilfontein & Klerksdorp this morning, but I believe it was only until 13:00 today, according to the local rag. Whatever, please stick to the prescribed speed limits especially when anywhere near Potch, although that is not really a problem for SFA owners...

Re: GTG - Eland Safari Park Klerksdorp
Excellent turnout - excellent company - and by Klerksdorp standards, an excellent ride! Remember, Klerksdorp is flat countryside with a hill here and there.
First, the thankyou's:
Andre (CRV) for initiating the outing, Mariusjnr for his arrangements, Du Toit Leonard (owner of Elands Safari Park) for hosting the event, and then to Lappies from 4x4 Megaworld for sponsoring umbrellas for each of the ladies present. Thanks too to Emile from the Klerksdorp Scuba Dive Centre who presented a demonstration of an amazing little hand-held Fire Extinguisher which is capable of extinguishing a blaze in seconds and leaves no residue afterwards, needs no maintenance, and is a boon to 4x4 owners.Lastly, but not least, a huge thankyou to all the folk who came from afar, Johannesburg, Benoni, Krugersdorp, Rustenburg,Ottosdal, Porch and then the local folk. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone here.
For the record, I probably live closer to the trail than anyone else, some 12kms, and my party and I were the last to arrive at the trail. But then I had an excuse, I had to go recover a <deleted> from Gearbox Services before we even began the trail. Having said that, the Defender put up an excellent performance over the obstacles without any hitches.
Those of us who had radios on the event had a lot of fun, Cassie in particular, because every time Riaan (Toyx4) and I were on an obstacle, Cassie would call us on the radio so that we would have to answer under adverse conditions ;). A couple of us had both VHF/FM as well as 29MHz radios in the vehicles and this became interesting when they all started yapping at once and then Lady Garmin had her say as well. Riaan was playing some interesting music which we were all treated to whenever he transmitted, both on VHF & 29MHz.
My official photographer took some 150 photos during the first (easy) part of the trail, and then the DSC camera's memory card was full, so we missed the more interesting parts of the trail. Will have to rely on other driver's for these photos.
Pics:
Tyre deflating - sounded like a bunch of Snakes with all the sssssssssing
The Fire Extinguisher demonstration
...and then the wind changed direction...
Fire extinguished, note absence of residue!
Cassie hoisting the Flag with pride (and now I realise why he keeps breaking antennas!)
The F250 in actiom
On the go!
More to follow.

.... You're like me ... taking more pics of the landscape and wildlife .... but, looks like it was fun, and a lovely turn-out. The weather played along too I see! There will be more pics soon I'm sure .... looking forward to those.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Nice pics, Mark! ... Looks nice a nice leisurely trail ... suitable for a family outing. (Like the Nissan recovery )
