Fuel consumpition on 1KZ-TE - I'm still smiling!

Post by Polarbear2008 »

The smile that I refered to when I took delivery of my 'lux just got wider yesterday!

Had to go to Bredasdorp (other side of Caledon) for business and left Cape Town with a full tank.

Got back last night after all the stop/go's and roadworks everywhere, and am VERY happy to report 10 l/100kms!

I could not believe it!

Just shows what a GREAT bakkie the KZ-TE is!!

Have a good one all!

Hi Neil

Yes there were a few stop/gp's that made things a bit SLOW, but there were streches that one could push 120+ although the "+" is taking it a bit far as there are plenty roving speed cameras around, and the latest craze for them is to park off right in the middle of roudworks. Have seen one myself the other day near Paarl - friend of mine got caught there :(

I was impressed more basause of all the up/down/up/down hill driving that still recorded such figures.

Not that I'm to keen on speeding with a raised body vehicle in any case.... that's what platkarre are made for

yep, most of them road works have a speed limit of 60. on my way back from george last week, I would try my best to stick to the speed limits. But a combination of a whole line of cars behind me, and children getting restless saw me doing up to 80kph at some points.

I think 60kph is just ridiculous for road works. Epsecially when there is nobody there like on the sunday I returned. road was clear ahead for miles and I was driving miss daisy.

Also on the N1. I stick to the 60kph religiously at the roadworks, as I have seen the vultures with the traps there many occasion. Buddy caught twice there already - R400 a pop. It's like they make the speed limit so irritating that you forced to go over it and then KACHING.... show me the money. If I'm driving 60 at the road works, I see people flying past me left and right. If you are one of them people I irritated, I apologies, but it's against my constitution to fund traffic officials donut addiction. And the reason why I don't use the left lane, it's full of draincovers that forms potholes in the road. Roadworks is not going to reund my shocks !!!

Check if the new speed limits were Gazetted - the traffis can't just change the speeds as they please. If it wasn't Gazetted, then the posted speed is just a "recommendation". They failed to do that here in Jo'burg last year and had to withdraw over R30 million in fines.

I think roadwork are different?
Does this change in speed at a roadworks still need to be gazetted?

I've done a few "cruising" trips where i maintain a steady 100-110 and my KZ gave me just over 10km/l, 8.5 is the norm and even with my rooftop tentand fully loaded at 140, i will not get less than 7.5.

I dont agree.. weight does have a definite influence on fuel consumption. Therefore it is not off-topic.

I once got just over 10km/l; returning from holiday, the last 300km back home. Had to prove to the then GF, that speed does have an effect on consumption(After she was cruising at 170+ while I was sleeping...and the paperwork that followed in the mail  )

When I still had 30' tyres on, I averaged 8.5km/l, city and highway. Now, with 31's, town driving is down to 7.2-7.5, but highway is up to around 9, me thinks.

Fortunately I have made some tactical moves regarding staff, etc. Now I use the 250 Isooz for work and the Lux for play.

7.5 vs 11km/l, R1500/tyre vs R500/tyre...it quickly adds up!

Hi There

I have a KZTE 2001 4X4.

The book says it has a 81l fuel tank.

Filled up a couple of times and seems as if its much smaller, more like 70ltr.I normally fill up when I get to a 1/4 tank, and then I have only done about 420km.

Any confirmation on tank size as well as whethet the KZ has a reserve light.

I have been told that there is a reserve light (manual makes no mention! Only tells you not to drive the vehicle with less than quarter in the tank!)

I went and checked the CAR magazine test [that I read before buying mine](May 2001) for the tank size: 81 Litres.

Hope this helps!
