I THINK TOYOTA MUST BE WORRIED
i hate loosing to the ranger ..... the LEGEND 45 gave the new shape ranger a beating so why is the new hilux loosing the crown? has been 2nd for 3 consecutive months now

Alex have you driven the new Ranger ?
Recently worked away, and was given a Ranger to use. Did a few hundred kilometers, well I did about 80km behind the steering wheel, on seriously corrugated gravel roads and then open tar .... Then another TOYOTA driver wrestled the keys from me to test the Ranger ....
Should have seen his face when he said: "HATE to admit it, but this thing drives NICE !"
Our ONLY negative comment was the passing ability when already doing 115km/h .... dont thing he pressed the pedal deep enough to get the box to kick down a gear .....
Well one other observation ... gaan speed fines kry met daai ding !!! You DONT feel the speed in it !! You very easily get to 130km/h on corrugated gravel roads - and it feels like doing 80km/h in a Hilux !! Open tar road I took it up to 160, put my hand over the dash and asked him to guess the speed .... he thought (and it felt like) we were doing about 110 to 120km/h.
Add in the VERY bad aftersales service of Toyota, and I wont be buying a Hilux now.

Daar moet goeie redes wees hoekom die manne die Fords nou so koop. As mens na Toyota se benadering oor al die jare heen kyk sien jy dat hulle voertuie nooit die hoogste krag uitset het of die meeste blinkertjies het nie maar jy weet wat jy kry in 'n Toyota. Veral as dit kom by betroubaarheid.
Na-verkope diens is natuurlik 'n ander storie en daar is geen verskoning vir swak na-verkope diens nie al is jou produk ook hoe goed. Swak na-verkope diens gaan mense wegjaag ten spyte van die kwaliteit van jou produk. Wat my sou bekommer as ek 'n ford koop is die hele fiasko met die Ecosports wat so aan die brand geslaan het en nog steeds doen. Nie die feit dat dit gebeur het nie. Alle vervaardigers het nou en dan 'n probleem met 'n produk reeks. Meestal van produkte verskaf aan hulle deur uitgekontrakteerde vervaardigers soos die kabeltjie in die stuurwiel van die Vigos en die lugsakke wat baie meer vervaardigers as Toyota geraak het. My kommer lê by die vervaardiger se houding en optrede indien so 'n situasie wel opduik.
Die probleem met die Ecosports is 'n inherente ontwerp probleem maar dit het dreigemente van klas aksies en ander litigasie gevat vir Ford om dit te erken en aan te spreek. Nou blyk dit dat daar nog Ecosports aan die brand geslaan het selfs na die probleem "reggestel" is en Ford se eerste reaksie daarop was "daar is geen bewyse dat die brand gekoppel is aan die probleem nie." Dit ten spyte van die feit dat die reggestelde karre se brande ook by die enjin ruim ontstaan het. So asof hulle nie geleer het van die eerste debakel nie.

Ek wil ook nou my D4d 4x4 S/C inruil..Ek was by Toyota gewees vir n "deal" daar rondgestaan vir seker 20minute op die nuwe voertuie vloer, niemand het na my toe gekom om te hoor of hulle my kan help nie..
Ek was nie by Ford gewees nie, maar oorweeg dit baie sterk om te gaan hoor watse "deal" kan ek by hulle kry..
Maar iets wat ons ingedagte moet hou, Toyota handelaars het baie keer n sleg houding, maar ek het net so baie ander stories gehoor van Ford,Nissan,VW ens.

Toyota neem nie in ag dat mense verander nie. Die jonger geslag is nie regtig meer so baie geworried oor "herverkoopwaarde" en "legendariese betroubaarheid" soos die ouer garde nie. Hulle soek tegnologie, bluetooth radios en looks wat girls se panties laat drop, krag en spoed en hulle soek fancy aanplak body modifications.. kyk maar na al die Raptor replicas wat op die paaie loop.
Ons gaan al hoe meer sien dat die Hilux agter raak, totdat hulle aanpas by die kopers.. Die nuwe Amarok stel ook 'n nuwe benchmark..

Maar ek soek nie plastic wat geen doel het aan my bakkie vas geplak nie.
As mens kyk na die waare Raptor upgrade in die VSA is dit great.
VSA en Australia het Toyota Racing Development (TRD) amper soos Raptor. Dit is legitimate verbeterings op die voertuig. Hoekom het ons nie dit in RSA nie.

Jy is reg daar is baie plastic aangeplak ook ongelukkig. Maar die bash plates en die suspension is darm verbeter. Ek se nie TRD is die enigste en beste oplossing nie maar dis ook n baie nice option om van te kan kies dalk. Ons Dakar ed het net ander kleur rims en stickers en rooi stik werk.
Maar die nuwe Toyota is darm n klein treu in die regte rigting. Hopenlik sal hulle bietjie met hulle oe ook steel van die kompetiesie vir die next upgrade.

Well I think Mazda & Ford are very competitive with their prices, and the techno gimmicks don't look like a tablet stuck to the dash.
The raptor stickers on a Ranger seem to have the same "cult following" as the so called dolphin shape 3 series BMW among certain sections of the population, so I would not get a Ranger out of principle.
I'm also not fond of the bling but what gets me is that I pay R200k for a VW and must be satisfied with a 3.5mm stereo jack when a R100k Kia has bluetooth (which is old tech anyway) It would likely cost far less to factory fit as opposed to an aftermarket hands free kit for the cell phone. These days it is actually cheaper to replace the factory crap with an aftermarket radio that has the basics such as BT.

ABsolutely. I had the 2012 fortuner, it was a terrible drive on and offroad. This was my first SUV/4x4/bakkie type vehicle. I have ridden a tata safari, jeep, xtrail, X5 and Merc ML. I have changed beginning of 2015 to the T6 ranger. Man it feels almost car like to drive. I find it also seems to soak up corrugation alot better than the fortune. Also the ranger is heavier, has a bigger engine and its still lighter on fuel consumption. Sorry to say, I wont buy another toyota. Maybe the 86 but thats it.

With the Etios I opted for a model with NO radio, rather than getting a radio that does not have BT. I drive way too much during the day, so I USE my BT

To me, it boils down to reliability. Which one of the two bakkies will still be driving after 10 years with no issues? Secondly, when I trade my vehicle in for a new one after 10 years, which one will give me the most for my trade in?
I honestly think the Hilux will come out tops with the above, not the Ranger. Just my opinion.

Ons het laasjaar oorgeslaan na hilux bakkies na n hele klompie jare se ford bakkies. Jy het nie goeie diens van die agent nodig nie, want dit gebeur nie so baie dat jy probleme kry met n hilux nie. Die nuwe fords is swak en die diens nog swakker. Ratkas en engine problem is algemeen met die nuwe fords.
As jy Ford koop, raak ontslae voor hy uitwaarbog is, hy is mos goedkoper, as jy die geduld het vir die agente, anders koop hilux. Nie die beste diens nie maar beter as die ander.

Johan dit sal goed wees on jul terugvoer te sien rakende die kwaliteit van die nuwe Hilux bakkies ... let's face it - julle WERK dit harder as wanneer ons by PnP op die sypaadjie parkeer ... een kolega ry Ranger, nou al op sy derde een. Maar die man ry teerpad, en laai omtrent nooit vrag nie. So 7 na 8 000km per maand, sy hy hou dit net n paar jaar. Vir daai tipe eienaarskap werk die Ranger okay .... hard werk en lang eienaarskap - ander storie. Daar sal julle manne vir ons meer kan vertel.

So ver geen probleme met die hilux's nie. Ja hulle werk op konstruksie sites, doen heelwat kilos en nie altyd die beste drywers nie. Meeste van die tyd word die bakkies afgeskryf voor hy opgewerk is. Daar staan darem nog n 2l hilux 4x4 met so 800 k km. Hy werk hulle galle!
Die ou by ons wat einlik die ford fan was het afgetree. Sy nuwe ford se olie pick up op die oliepomp het afgebreek, so Ford moes toe n nuwe engine insit ondere andere.

Hierbo word genoem dat die Fortuner nie so lekker op grondpad ry nie - yeah right! Ek het so pas van my "lekker" Revo ontslae geraak en is nou in die proses soekende na n lae kms Vigo 4x4 D4D of Fortuner. Het so pas n baie goeie 2013 Fortuner gery met n opsie om te koop en is werklik beindruk. Krag gewys nie so nippy soos die Revo nie maar ek is verseker van n produk (D4D) wat homself oor en oor bewys het. Die Revo (wat ek gehad HET!!) is beslis beter as my jag vriende se Ford Rangers (wat nooit in my motorhuis sal staan nie) maar dit is onaanvaarbaar dat ek nie gelukkig is met die NUWE toyota nie!! Ek het n 'stof' probleem binne, ek het (voor) brieke probleme, ek het n "suspect" ratkas probleem ens, GEHAD en met net 27K km!!! toe maar besluit om te verkoop. Ek is nou gelukkig om terug te gaan D4D toe of dit nou die Vigo is of die "old" generation Fortuner maak nie saak nie!! Die Ranger laat my dink aan die ou tye "excellent boys out evening" unfortunately it just doesn't last! - "On-going reliability" en "Peace of Mind" is waarna ek hunker.
