Cutlery and Crockery
Lets talk cutlery and crockery, what do you use on a camping trip? I am specifically interested in pots and pans, but want to know all of it.
1. Cups, I don't mind melamine, cannot do steel mugs, they get too hot.
2. Plates and bowls I also use melamine and bowls Ithe ones that fit into each other.
3. Cutlery I use normal forks but I bought a couple of Victorinox steak knives and I put it in one of those fold up bags.
4. Pots, I have a small set that fits into each other and a couple of Dixies, I don't ever travel with a braai skottel. I'd rather pack a non stick pan.
And then with it goes my fold up braai and other bits.
Now with the Fortuner space is the big issue so I have to pack smart or I will not be able to take everything I want to.

Greensport sells a set of stainless cooking pots with lids that fit into each other. Works well on gas.

Re: Cutlery and Crockery
I use stainless steele indian pots which fit into each other with almost flat lids that can be used on gas, electrical and induction cooker. I then have two different sized aluminium flat bottemed pots which can be used for bread or potjies or to fry breakfasts. This is then rounded off by a good flat pan with low sides for everything else. I then also have a stainless steel roaster which I use as a breadbin as well as an oven. In there I also bake miniture loaves, allowing each person their own miniture loaf of bread. A single loaf application makes eight miniture loaves...
My coffee mugs are stainless steele double layered mugs which are inbetween sized, not too big, but also not small...
My forkes are pretty basic mild steel forks, but the knives are very much
like bread knives, broad and flat but sharp like steak knives. This way I dont carry too much extra as the knives multi task in the kitchen department. They are also not serrated but caneven cut tomatoes like a serrated knife..
We use melamine steak plates as all purpose plates. If we eat sweets or pudding, we often use our mugs in the bush.
We use the very small tin cups for wine or a shooter with sundowners. Our shooter of choice is Ponchos caramel infusion. A good dollop of this with your sundowner of choice will guarantee a good nights rest...
Make sure that you have a cut off staysoft bottle in the pocket of your RTT to save you a long walk to the ablution facilities in the wee wee hours of the night... These bottles can always be washed out in the morning when you get up to fetch coffee water.
Good luck and happy camping...

Yep, mine too!! One of the better in ventions.Haboob wrote:My coffee mugs are stainless steele double layered mugs which are inbetween sized, not too big, but also not small....
I also use 2 of those fold-up square "basins" for washing up. Re-inforced the corners with extra pieces glued on and dowl-pins inserted, otherwise they fold at the corners. Also a fold-up "pail" (emmer).
Have 2 small SS fold-up grids, one for meat, one for braai-broodjies.
Have 3 SS fold-up tripods, good for grids or potjie on the coals.
All the above folded and packed in compartments in crates.
Pack light, strong and only necessary stuff.
Enjoy!
