Bell housing for 2.7 to R151 gearbox

Post by Pieter Bean »

Hallo
I want to exhange my current gearbox for a R151(KZTE) gearbox in my 2000 D/c 2.7 4x4. I would like to know if there is a supplier who can maybe supply me with a bellhousing. Gilo does not make them.

Marlin from MarlinCrawler used to have such an adapter but I see it is discontinued, there was a guy in Australia selling them as well. I am sure Fana (Conversion Man) on the forum can make you such an adapter or new bellhousing.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to do this, your 2.7 is not going to be too happy with those gear ratios if you are going to use the box from a diesel and then you are probably going to end up having to change the diff ratios on the front and rear diff. The box is also slightly longer which will move the gear lever back.

Hi Willem
Thanks for the reply. I am swopping the gearboxes because I am turbo'ing the 3RZ motor and therefore need a stronger box.

Ok, also have look at the Celica R154 boxes, I think the ratios will be more suited to the application just check if you can get a transfer case that will fit.

I think if you use a kz box you are going to have a very short 1st gear and it is going to be pretty dead in 5th.

But why a turbo on a 4x4 ? My experience with turbo'd petrol 4x4s have not been very positive. Very nice on the open road but offroad there is either too little or too much power depending on if you on or off boost.

But never the less thats my personal opinion. Please tell us a bit more about what turbo you are going to use, manifold, boost, are you going to drop the compression, what engine management are you going to use, what size injectors etc

I got my Eaton M62 supercharger manifold today so mine will be supercharged in February, I just need a few minor items still.
