Re: Verhoging in die petrol prys!!
Highly inflationary! .... As transport costs increase so does the cost of everything else. The containment of fuel price increases is paramount to the well being of the overall economy and every aspect of the overall fuel cost determination should be controlled with a battery of iron fists.
The RAF levy is excessive ... the principle is good but the administration of funds sucks .... misappropriation / corruption / non-productive over staffing and ineffectual control of claims. At 64c / lit I estimate that the average motorist contributes between R90 to R100 per month to this fund. This must amount to billions per annum ... where is all that revenue going? Not to the claimants, that's for sure, who only benefit from a small percentage of it while the vast bulk is soaked up in ineffectual administration.
Worse still is the fuel levy, at R1.50 /lit using a similar estimation of consumption as above, the average motorist pays between R210 / R240 per month into the bottomless pit of govt. coffers.
Only about 68% of the pump price is related to the cost of supply (production / transport / wholesale & retail margins) while the rest is levies and taxes ... most of which is falling through the cracks anyway.
It's enough to get your blood / fuel boiling!

Re: Verhoging in die petrol prys!!
all the levies, that why it's more expensive.
my sis is in qatar at the moment and fuel is like R2 / lt.
if we add up all the government levies, it comes to about R2.30 / lt.
a certain petrol station in town is reported to sell about 1.5million lt of petrol a month.
Not 100% sure of this fact, but if it is true, then out of this one station government gets almost R3.5million out of this petrol station alone. :wth:
So every month they be getting billions in revenue from petrol alone.
Where is all the money going - we all know but there is sweet bugger all we can do.
Same like we can do sweet bugger all to stop Julius from becoming the next president.
But there is maybe light at the end of the tunnel.
You all know I'm all for alternative fuels. I've tried LPG gas. although it saves me a bit, i'm still handing over hard earned cash to government for some sort of levy or tax.
If only i could get a steady supply of used cooking oil, I would start brewing biodiesel.
Now I have my sights set on elec motor.
This one guy in Australia converted a Ford Capri in hi backyard.
http://www.evcapri.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Shows you step by step how.
And cheaply as well.
Well maybe cheaply in Australia where government is actually concerned with the environment.
I confronted the mnufacturer of the Joule. SA answer to the energy crisis.
ASked them why it cost R220 000 for this car, when this guy could build this car in his backyard for like $AUS10 000. Got the usual reply about research costs blah, blah, blah.
So i asked them when will the man in the street, who REALLY needs this car ever be able to afford one? They said in the next couple years or so. I thought YEH RIGHT. when 20yr old second hand cars in SA still go for R20 000
AS you can see I get very worked up about this.
It's just this government absolute disregard to finding a solution to the fuel crisis and bsically everthing else. Fossil fuel is running out, and they just don't seem to care.
Maybe I should report them to UN. They did sign the Kyoto protocol after all.

I think the petrol price hike is pathetic.. its just going to cause a price hike in everything.. Food, Clothes ETC... and when the petrol price goes down... the food prices will stay the same... and apparently it is going to rise again in may...

I can believe this ... besides having a vast population that still cook on open fires and paraffin stoves we have industry whose emissions are not controlled to the same standards as most other industrialised countries ... the coal burning turbines for power generation are only a small part of this. Then we have the 'devil may care' attitude from the govt officials who are supposed to police these emissions and in all probable likelihood are accepting bribes to 'turn the other' way. That same attitude is rampant among the general pop that urinate and defecate in streams / rivers and throw trash out in the veld or on the streets when refuse bins are mere meters away. I even doubt if environmental education will have any effect .... it's an attitude problem, not so much lack of awareness or knowledge. :problem:dalkill wrote:PS. did you know SA is the highest per capita polluters in the WORLD

Not sure which is right, but i was watching the doccie recently about global warming on SABC and there they mentioned we number one.
And Qatar is number one :-)
Must be the R2 / lt .. so they don't care.
One that doccie they did also mention major diriving force for global warming is greed.
But the people pushing for this greed needs to learn :
"Only after the last tree has been cut down, Only after the last river has been poisoned, Only after the last fish has been caught, Only then we will find money cannot be eaten" ~ Cree Prophecy

Dis nou reg, Stefan.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!
