Fortuner or HiLux ????
I am a woman interested in buying a vehicle for the outdoors (Toyota specifically)
And need assistance in choosing a safe, solid vehicle with decent 4x4 capabilities but that will also be required for day-to-day town use.
My thoughts are going with, either a Hilux or a Fortuner.
How feasible is it to kit out a Fortuner for off-road purposes
Will anyone please assist with information that will help me choose the right vehicle?
Thank you in anticipation!

Welcome to the forum Louise.
I see you currently have a "car". Do you have previous experience with a "bakkie" ?
As you specify day-2-day use in town I would definately go with the Fortuner.
The Fortuner is VERY capable off road, and many many options for kitting it out.
The modern bakkies, all brands, are LONG ! Many people have driven home in their new bakkies to find it does not fit in the garage .... Parallel parking is a nightmare. No "boot" to lock items away, so you dark out the canopy windows so you can see even less when trying to negotiate traffic ....
All that said, I AM a bakkie person and happily live with these "small issues".
The Fortuner is the perfect combination of everything you would expect from a "car" and a real hardcore 4x4, and only slightly larger than your current vehicle.
One item that you WILL notice - the ride height. The 4x4 Fortuner is substantially higher than your current vehicle. NICE !! Once you get used to seeing over the traffic ahead you will never want a "platcar" again.

Thanks very much! that is much along the lines of what I was thinking - the garage definitely being an issue. I have just never seen a Fortuner actually kitted out?

Welcome Louise, hope you enjoy it here on the forum. If you look on the Fortuner section you will see a lot of kitted out Fortuners.

Welcome Louise!
Also agree that the Fortuna will be the better option for you.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Hi i will go for the fortuner. I had one previously and trade it for a hilux. The tuner is a better ride and more spacious inside.

Re: Fortuner or HiLux ????
Allot of people are happy with there Unfortunate's and access is a lot easier unless you have a good canopy. However I would stick with a hilux as I can load stuff like wet tents, wood etc that I would not like to put in a Tuna.

Re: Fortuner or HiLux ????
Hi and welcome.
Both are great vehicles.
Fortuner is al lot easier to manoeuver in day to day traffic. However if you like camping and start loading tents, gazebos, stretchers, coolers, chairs, tables etc. etc. you might find that the Fortuner does not have enough space and you will then need to fit a roof rack or buy a trailer.
Good luck with your mission!!!
