Fortuner kitting
So the LandCruiser is gone
But the Fortuner is here, so now I have to start all over again some how I just don't learn.
I just got the Frontrunner roofrack today, so will be assembling it tonight. The parts for the Dual battery is also ready so will do that over the weekend. then I will be building a drawer system, again

Let me see what I can do
I was actually in the market for a second car that I can commute with, so was looking at the Etios. Then when I got to Toyota I explained the situation to the sales person and somehow she suggested a Fortuner and trade the LC76. I only had the LC for 5 months or so. So did not think they could settle it. Then when I told SWAMBO about the Fortuner idea she liked the idea. So its easier for her to drive the Fortuner and she is close to work, and I will drive her car. It does actually work out better than having 3 cars and all that goes with it, maintenance, licensing...... And Toyota settled the cruiser so....

Sorry to hijack this thread but are those roofrack feet the ones that attach straight onto the Fortuner roof without tracks? I need to do the roofrack and don't have tracks on and am considering these. Any disadvantage when compared to track mount?WayneSchalk wrote:I got he roof rack on I did not have time to fit the "wind deflectors" yesterday and I really hope they make a difference, it makes a hell of a noise and a vibration

Re: Fortuner kitting
Wayne Congrats on the new Fortuner. Sure you'll be enjoying this one.
If i may add some things to think about when designing your packing system in the FT.
Consider at looking building two seperate systems that can be bolted together and facilitate the "relocation" of the fridge. One system as per normal that stays permanent fixed in the load area. The 3rd row seats have fantastic bolt holes to use for bolting down. The second one I would suggest for long distance overlanding is to remove the 2nd row of seats and built something there whereby you can load minimal on the roofrack and still have plenty space in the rear. We Designed one in theory and we could load everything in the back including a 2nd sparewheel without needing for a roofrack at all.
Just want to stir your thoughts a bit on this I see you like to be busy with work.

Hi Ronnie, that is right, it bolts into the existing holes where the OEM load bars fit. http://www.frontrunner.co.za/racks/slim ... 60HLLHm52Aronnie wrote:Sorry to hijack this thread but are those roofrack feet the ones that attach straight onto the Fortuner roof without tracks? I'd say the only disadvantage is that you cannot remove the roof rack as easily as with the tracks.

Thanks; strangely I thought it would be easier to remove....then again since I dont need to but tracks and feet it should work out cheaper
Do you know if it will work with the older Frontrunner roofracks too? I still need to look to buy a roofrack second hand

Thanks for the link Wayne....I see they price the rack and feet at R6600. I got a price for just the feet at R1375 so that means about R5225 for the rack. Still think it is worth it to go second hand for the rack as there is a good chance of saving about R1000 and maybe the rack comes with some of the brackets I would want.

Not really, the feet comes with everything you will need. So if you do find a 2nd rack it comes down to 10 M8 bolts to tie the rack to the feet.ronnie wrote:Thanks for the link Wayne....I see they price the rack and feet at R6600. Re: Fortuner kitting
This is the size of the one specifically for the Fortuner, Width 1165mm (46") Length 1964mm (77") I am sure any one will fit, but wind noise might be a problem, like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I did not put on the wind deflectors so it is making one hell of a noise even when doing 80km/h.ronnie wrote:Won't any Frontrunner rack around 2M long workWayneSchalk wrote:Not really, the feet comes with everything you will need. I wanted to just fit the Landcruiser rack on the Fortuner with this feet but Andre at Frontrunner strongly advised against it for the very same reason.

its jut to find that 2nd hand rack that is the right size

[quote="This is the size of the one specifically for the Fortuner, Width 1165mm (46") Length 1964mm (77") I am sure any one will fit, but wind noise might be a problem, like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I did not put on the wind deflectors so it is making one hell of a noise even when doing 80km/h.
I wanted to just fit the Landcruiser rack on the Fortuner with this feet but Andre at Frontrunner strongly advised against it for the very same reason.[/quote]
Is it the length or width that causes the wind noise? If length can you not just mount a little further back? If it is the width I guess there is nothing you can do.
I would not ride with the roofrack on all the time so would only have on when loaded.....wonder if that will get rid of the wind noise

Its not a problem, what you must do if that happens is put your foot down and lock the steering wheel in the direction it lies, ie. if it lies on the left lock the steering to the left. This will bring the car back on to all 4

She does'nt have to know that the problem was sorted out ages ago, just show her the threads of the bad handling on gravel, basically the same as our " tar roads"WayneSchalk wrote:Thunder02 wrote:Did you mention the problem of the Tuna's whom tend to lie on there sidesWayneSchalk wrote:Nee sy betaal, maar ook sy werk naby aan die huis so dit pla nie.

Re: Fortuner kitting

Not yet....
No I had a very busy time with stupid weddings and all the crap that goes with it. I am getting people in to clean my garage this weekend so I think I'll do something on it if I can get that beer leak fixed tonight.

Re: Fortuner kitting
So after I considered all the options I opted for the Frontrunner Featherlite RTT.
Will fit it this weekend and post some pics, this tent only weighs 40kg! Thant is less then the 2 jerry cans I have on the roofrack
