Looking to buy a diesel automatic 4Runner
What is the reason not to buy a 2lt with automatic? I have no need to race or pull heavy stuff, I need something for camping, trails and town. I once had a hilux sfa that I converted to a 2lt with intercooler and 33" tyres. It was a nice one and much better than my lj70 2lt with out intercooler.

Not sure about what autobox to use, but if you're intent on a diesel in SFA, you might have a bit of modifying to do. The Ford / Mazda 2.5 WL motor is perfect for this, but again, not sure what suitable autobox will take a transfer case although the standard SFA manual box is well suited to that motor.
The question arises - why does it have to be auto?
Other option and probably a cheaper modification is a petrol 3lit Lexus V8 with it's standard auto box.

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Re: Looking to buy a diesel automatic 4Runner
Not looking at modifications. I'm a sufferer of PPMS, it has to do with the neuro system and I have difficulty with driving a manual. Sold my VW Syncro 2 months ago, gave up on the idea to convert my beach buggy into a auto and is selling that aswell. I currently still have a city round about for my office, wich I use sometimes but have difficulty with my wife's Hyundai H1 auto that I keep damaging cause I'm used to 4x4's. Pavement hopping, dirt roads etc.

Re: Looking to buy a diesel automatic 4Runner
If it is the Gen 2 4Runner then I would say go for it. I had the 2l-te in my gen2 Surf and it worked well with the auto. Why I say Gen2 is that most of the parts are interchangeable with the local IFS. Should you ever want to go the lexus v8 route then the conversion is also much easier. No major mods needed.

Thanks Ali3n, that is what I wanted to know as I had both good and bad experiences with the 2Lt.
