Re: Cataract surgery...
Thanks for posting that Andy. Typing a new message is a long & laborious task at the moment.
Update: My left eye was uncomfortable keeping it closed while i squint at the keyboard, so I have now folded two tissues into a small lens-size and placed that in the left lens area of my specs. Much more comfy as I can now keep both eyes open whilst taking short spells at the PC. Luckily for me, ,my PC does not feature a web cam so I will not be scaring anybody tonight. :)

Re: Cataract surgery...
Chris,
Thank goodness the itchiness has now gone, it's just difficult to remember not to rub my eye.
An added advantage I now find is that all colours are now so much more vivid than before. Apparently one's lens changes in opacity (? - Eyeman, help please) as one draws nearer to pensionable age and the new lens is totally clear so colours look great. I have now decided my house no longer needs painting - just get new eyes ;)
Due to the glare I am keeping out of the sun at the moment. Can't wait to see what the "new" colours of my Toys are!

Re: Cataract surgery...

Eric... so happy to hear it all sounds good. My Dad had the operation about 15 years ago, he is 87 years old now and can read telephone numbers in the telephone directory without any glasses. His eyesight is much better than mine. Anyway hope that you go from strength to strength... Hugs...

Re: Cataract surgery...
Improving every day but I still 'block' out the new eye when trying to read the forum. Pupil is still somewhat dilated which makes vision blurred, but much more comfortable today than yesterday. Wonder how long it will be before the pupils return to normal size - or is it because of the drops I am using every four hours (Vigamox & Voltaren). Grant?

Oom Thys, the reason why I had to move from JHB to Klerksdorp in the first place is 'cos the neighbours complained about my singing whilst in the shower. Guess I should have maybe showered inside and not under the garden hose...

Re: Cataract surgery...
I must just add that tonight is the 6th night after the op, and it seems that today, for the very first time, the sight in my left eye is absolutely brilliant. Seems it takes a few days to settle down but it has made a HUGE difference and I am definitely looking forward to this Wednesday when I have the right eye done. Colours are far more vivid, everything is clearer and it is as if I am seeing the night sky with all the twinkling stars for the very first time. Guys, if you're over 50, have your eyes checked for cataracts and do not even think twice about the procedure, it is very worthwhile!!

Re: Cataract surgery...
Thanks all! I'm looking forward to it actually, the thought of near-perfect vision in just one week's time really is something to look forward to. All the doubts I originally had about the lens implant have faded, it really is a worthwhile improvement although being house-bound for the next 4-5 days or so are once again set to become the longest days of my life. No reading, no TV, no forum time (although I will sneak a look somehow). But after that - ZOOM! Watch out South Africa, Family Dog is on the loose :)

Just remember that with the new vision, you'll be able to see the dents and scratches on your vehicles more easily

When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.

Re: Cataract surgery...
Out, and success! Going back for a check up this afternoon, right pupil is very dilated so everything is horribly bluured but whoever told me that the second op is worse than the first, is very wrong. Still have tr tread very carefully, can see NOTHING close up and more or less hoping that I am hitting the right keys on the KB.
Biggest problem is trying to aim carefully when I insert eyedrops and the oitnment, hopping I do not go thru' the pupil. Remember, I have been short-sighted all my life so havuing 'normal' vision is something new to me, I used to see close-up extremely well, could read the serial number on an ant's back, now I can't even see the ant.
But we're getting there, as soon as the eyes settle (week, maybe 2?) I will get reading glasses.

Re: Cataract surgery...
They had the cricket on the LCD screen at the Ophthalmologist's - it was more painful to watch this than undergoing the entire operation!

Re: Cataract surgery...
Alles is reg, dankie Chris.
