Gearbox trouble
To cut a long story short: the 4th gear in my RAV 4 is popping out. Took it to the dealer (and the gearbox specialist that will strip and repair the gearbox), showed them under which conditions it's popping out and left in their capable (or at least I thought so) hands. Almost two weeks later and I have not even received a quotation yet! It took them a bit more than a week to get the gearbox out, due to the lack of a special tool??
Should I be more patient or am I allowed to pop a fuse and give them a piece of my mind???

Re: Gearbox trouble
One would think at least the dealer would have that tool. A week and no quote? That's rubbish. And they'll want to charge you something anyway if you decide to go elsewhere.
Turn the heat a little and see, good luck

Exactly!!! Would have expected that from any other garage, but not the dealer. What exactly am I paying for again when I bring a car to the dealer for repairs or service??Donkey wrote:One would think at least the dealer would have that tool. A week and no quote? That's rubbish. I think it is time for me to speak to the manager, thanks for the confirmation that I am way to patient!Thunder02 wrote:I would of blown my fuse after the second day, which model is it and what mileage?
It is a 2008 model with surprisingly low 58 000 odd km.

Re: Gearbox trouble
You reckon that quick? I had allowed one and a half weeks to get the car back. One day for taking out and stripping gearbox, one day waiting for approval, ordering parts, perhaps another day or two for waiting for parts and finally another day for putting everything back together. But so far we are at almost two weeks just for getting a quotation!!CasKru wrote:Should have had it back after 2 or 3 days.
Thanks every one for the feedback so far.

I've got a 96,just clocked 380 000km,still running sweat.
Give them hell, when time comes to pay they not going to give you two weeks.

Re: Gearbox trouble
My boss is on his second RAV now. The first one (one of the very first that came out) he sold to his brother with over 300 000km, the second one he's still driving and has in excess of 150 000km on it; no problems with either ever! Awesome car all in all and one of the best SUVs I have driven.
But to get back to the topic; after still not having received a quotation by yesterday afternoon, I phoned and after getting nothing out of the service advisors and workshop manager I asked to be put through to the manager and voila, a quarter hour later my quotation was ready! Should have taken this step last week already

Re: Gearbox trouble
Gone that route once before with Toyota, dealer principle usually gets things going, but it is sad that one has to resort or should i say stoop to those levels

Re: Gearbox trouble
Soooo, after two and a half months I still don't have my car back!!!!
It really is a looong story and I am fed up with all the different stories I have been told not only by the service advisors, but especially by the workshop manager! Spoke to the Dealer prinicipal yesterday (should have done so a long time ago), his jaw dropped when I mentioned the two and a half months.
All of a sudden the seal that needs to be replaced (second oil leak, the first oil leak required three new seals, because the first two didn't work??) can be sourced from another Namibian Toyota dealer and does not have to come from SA...
Why, why why does one have to go this far??
Hopefully I'll have my RAV back soon; it's an awesome vehicle and none of the competitors can match the features. I did some thorough research before I bought it and did some more research now, thinking to replace it because of all the trouble.
That said, that particular Toyota branch will never see me again. I sincerely hope the other branches are more capable
