Tuning After Fitting Snorkel - Please Help!

Post by Rookie60 »

Hi All, I have fitted a snorkel to my '94 2.2 Petrol Hilux Raider D/C 4x4 [4y motor]- which I bought from 4x4Direct.co.za
Now the bakkie is battling to idle and cuts out when it's cold.....
I must assume this has something to do with the airflow to the motor having changed?
What do I need to do to rectify this - other than just setting up the idle speed????
Please Help!
Thanks,
Rookie60 :beg:

If the donaldson is still in place take off the lid and see if the idling is ok.

First time I hear of something like this. Think Bulletjie has good idea, take hose of the carburetor and see if problem is still there.

Also check that idle solenoid thingy's wire

Barend, there should be no tuning or after fitment adjustment to the carb after fitting a snorkel. The only thing that could be influencing the airflow (at idle speeds) is if there is a 'blockage' like a rag of foreign object in the snorkel. What Everdt suggests (taking off the Donaldson's cover) allows free airflow which is not through the snorkel. If this makes a difference, then there is a blockage in the snorkel.

However, my money is on the idle jet solenoid as Pieter suggested. It's more than possible that a wire to the carb was dislodged while fitting the snorkel. There are two wires to the carb .... one for the auto-choke and the other for the idle jet solenoid. Check that both are properly and securely connected. ;-)

It can be four things, the idle sol ,auto choke ,air leak on the vacum of the carb, or dirt in the carb .I think its the choke b if it was the idle sol your lux wont idle when its hot either.I drive a iux with a 4y and my choke doesnt work so it also battles to idle when shes cold.

Yeah Wade, you're right ..... auto choke! Missed the part that it's only happening when cold! ;-)
