100" is known worldwide to be the ideal wheelbase for serious 4x4 work, so my dream was always to build a 100" Hilux. I found a real rustbucket for a donor vehicle, the chassis was shortened by 400mm making it 100", the loadbox is std double cab, but i moved the arches and the cab is std single cab. I left the std 4Y engine in at first, but it was modified and EFI'd later to push 115KW, but it didn't have any low down torque, it was then swopped with a 3.0 V6 Camry engine, and believe it or not, it didn't work as well as a 4Y, so a std 4Y with Brospeed and EFI went back in. We won our first year of competition with that 4Y, but the unquenchable thirst of the 4y trying to pull the 35's made me swop it out with a KZTE. The KZ was fitted with a 2.8 Colt mechanical pump, large intercooler etc. and we won the second year with the Diesel. My biggest suprise was that we took second place in the annual Toyota challenge in the dunes with 100 entrants including many seriously modified V8's, supercharged 6cylinders, and other vehicles with 3 times the horsepower. I spent a lot of time getting the balance right and make it handle well, wich i think is more important than the horsepower, i've even entered it in a stock car race once, it's a bit top heavy for that, but at least we were not last.
Sorry uncle, my grinder and welder is still my favourite tools.
