Hennops off-road Trail - 20 October 2012

Post by Ali3n »

So as my first official event I will be starting with Hennops as listed on the calendar for Gauteng.

Most of you know Hennops, it is a fun trail and well worth a visit. I will contact them tomorrow to negotiate a better price for us but the standard price is R200 p/vehicle with a maximum of 4 people. There are braai facilities availibel so bring your "dop & chop" and lets have a jol. If we are 10 vehicles or more we may use the lapa for free. We will need to book with them so lets not wait longer than we have. Lets start a list.

Here are some details but will supply more details tomorrow after I contacted them.
This 4x4 trail is a perfect challenge for all enthusiasts that want to learn more about the capabilities of his/her vehicle. Become more confident with and maximise the potential of that expensive 4wd vehicle.

The trail includes mud-holes, steep rocky climbs, descents and dongas.

Also not forgetting to come and see our well known Zonkies.

For those that are seeking a new challenge at Hennops, the Klipdrift route is open to public by prior arrangement only and for groups of 4 or more vehicles.
Here is the link for details of the trail as well as facilities. http://www.hennops.co.za/trailfacilities/trail.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No mixup, was listed as the 21st on the calendar which is a sunday so just made it the sat. If all is in agreement then we can change the date to the 27th. I have no problem. What the guys say who put their names on??? Must be 100% consensus on the date change.

Okay so I completely forgot to post the details of my disscion with Hennops here. Sorry :blushing:

We don't need to book beforehand unless we are a large groupe. Sofar the list is short so please put your name up I you want to join.
the use of the lapa is dependant on number of vehicles, need to be more than 10. The braai facilities are roughly halfway through the route. Was thinking we get there at 8 as they open at 8. We get organised and set off on the route at around 9. Stop fir a snack at the halfway mark. Do the rest of the route and then take service road back to braai area. The track us not so heavy but should you decide not to do an obstacle, there are "chicken runs". This is going to be a fun day. Join us. :)

Gjust a last little note. Payment to be made at the gate. Could not negotiate a better price due to numbers. Brin dop and chop for a braai and kuier after the trail. There are braai facilities, I will bring some wood. we must try and meet at around 8 at the venue. Probably try and start the trail at 9 after breefing and formalities.

What you guys think? Maybe we should have a light breakfast before the trail? Just a thought.

Come join us guys. Its gonna be fun. :dance1:

This is indeed correct. There is no safe parking at the trail itself, but there is at least a gate guard at the picnic spot.

To those who have not done this trail before -

It is not an extremely difficult trail (I'd rate it a 2-4) and there are escape routes all over, when required. There is one specific obstacle that might be a 4. The rest are all 2-3. Just before the braai area there is a area with lots of short obstacles and most are a lot of fun.

The braai area has got a little lapa and clean toilets. It's spacious with plenty of trees for shade and taps at every few braai's.

After the braai area, it's a short distance and a few obstacles and then back to the exit gate.

It is a fun trail with lots of nice scenery and some wildlife. Bokke en dinge  There are few sharp edge rocks, but nothing like the trail at Hennopspride.

Just a note - Stay with the group at this venue. Though I have not heard to0 many bad things about this specific venue, the one just up the road, Hennopspride is notorious for theft and the likes!

I am still working on possibly coming along, but at this stage I am also pre-booked at a family gathering.
