Boegoeberg Weekend trip 9 - 11 April

Post by Niel »

Louis (Rolbos) is in the process of organizing a weekend trip to Boegoebergthat will be the Western Cape's first official weekend trip that include camping.

There is a limited number of 15 vehicles for this weekend and some have been taken already so there is 10 places left so add your name to the list asap. I have heard a lot of good things of the trail and camping area ....

We will post more info on this shortly but first we need to see if who will be going with:

List to date:
1. Louis
2. Thys
3. Allan Hoppy
4. King Rat
5. Niel provisionally
6. joeydalton
7. Tornado
8. ismail provisionally
9. Herman Lourens

More info on Boegoeberg:
This scenic route with a panoramic view of the sea in the West and the Cederberg mountains in the East, is set high in the "Engelsman-se-berg" on the Farm Lambertshoek, overlooking Graafwater and Clanwilliam. Buchu is still being actively cultivated and a variety of activities is offered to visitors.

The initial roads in the mountains were made to harvest the Buchu, which grows high in the mountains. Prior to the roads, the harvested Buchu had to be carried down the mountain by hand and donkey. These roads now form part of the Boegoeberg 4x4 trail. From the start of the trail, the climb begins passing interesting places en-route like "Buurman-se-gat", "Sarel-se-kop", Kliphuis, Die Poort, Groenvlei and Stillerus until you reach the Platklip viewpoint where a panoramic view awaits participants.

The 4x4 trail with a distance of ± 30km offers a variety of challenges from steep ascents and descents to technical driving sections where you will negotiate your passage around and over large rock formations. On the last section to the Platklip viewpoint a stream is crossed on numerous occasions. The difficulty of this section can vary depending on the time of year the trail is visited. Your driving skills and your vehicle traction will definitely be tested, but with the peace of mind that you will not damage your vehicle.

The farm also offers a guesthouse, a farm shop stocking basic necessities and the beautiful sandstone cottage, "Buurman-se-gat", about 2km from the start of the 4x4 trail. This thatched roof cottage, built against a natural rock overhang, with an indoor fireplace, an outside bush shower and a sea view toilet, is an ideal breakaway place for a weekend. The charm of this cottage is unbelievable. A short hike of 10 minutes will take you to a beautiful waterfall in the valley, with shade and water all year around.

A further two sandstone cottages are to be built in the mountains, one at Kliphuis and the other at Kliphoutkop. Both these cottages will have the same charm as "Buurman-se-gat".

Two campsites are available on the farm for visitors, one at the start of the trail, under large trees and next to a dam, the other on top of the mountain at the Kliphuis. Both campsites offer basic toilet facilities and fresh water.

There is also 3 well equiped houses there for those families seeking more comfort.

The camping area is shady with a communal Lapa and swimming pools.

The owner has named the territory "Hilux Valley" and owns two Lux's himself.

There's two trails available, the main trail is quite challenging and takes a full day, the second trail is a nice Sunday morning playtime.

Here we are wiith the detail as requsted
"Inligting:

Naaste Dorp: Clanwilliam (25 km)

Besprekings: Sybrie de Beer / Julize de Beer

Beste tyd van die jaar: Heel jaar

Roetes: 4x2 en 4x4

Roetes afstand: 10km of 25 km (2-3 of 5-6 ure)

Gradering: 3-4

Koste: Langroete: R180 pv
Kortroete: R100 pv
Albei roetes: R200 pv

Akkommodasie: Boonste Kampplek: R 80 pv pn
Onderste kampplek: R 120 pv pn
Berghut: R 250 pn
Klipspringer: R 400 pn
Ouhuis: R 400 pn

Please add my name to the list as well as a friend, Arno, who will bring his Isuzu with. (he actually REALLY wants a Hilux)

Is there by any chance a contact number as i need to find out regarding bringing a little dog with as Boegoeberg does advertise as being pet friendly.

Cheers

Hi all who indicated to join us on the Boegoeberg Weekend. I am very excited to see that there are such a lot of interest in the Trip. Expect to see some more info coming from our Moderater, PietPetoors, and fill in your Booking Form etc, so that you could reserve your spot. Remember, we can only take 15 Vehicles.
We are nearly there, but you have to formally book your spot. For practical purposes, this is very necessary. So book ASAP otherwise, well, sorry, it will be a no go for you.
One very little sore point, my dearest "woefie" !!
I have two of them I would love to take with me. What can dogs more desire to acompany me into the great outdoors. I woulld love it !! There is a major problem though in that not all people likes dogs, I for one would not like to see my little dearies( die bliksempies) have a nice moring cr......p on your doorstep. I would like you to stay my friend. Not that your dog would do such a terrible thing, but let us face it, they do not use toilets.
The biggest problem of all guys, it is Farm and mountain country and ticks (those big, fat, ugly, blue blownup ones are a very true reality. You cannot get around this. "Ag shame , arme Toytjies was gewees !!" (My dog's name is Toya)
Then, experience taught us a couple more problems such as Johns doggie under my 33" MTR's is not a good sight at all, or a slight bite to "Johns" baby's hand and Mommy is at war and your weekend is a gooner, then the last by but not least, if I bring my little dog everyone else would want the same. Can you imagine what will happen eventually?
And guys, it is not a pleasure to keep out looking for them to see where they are and what they're up to every monemt of the day. They are worse than ,well ,a naughty c.....ld. Please excuse me if I sound a bit rude, but really I do not want my doggies to spoil my or your weekend.
Sybrie De beer has a very cute three legged Jack Russel Terrier who runs with the vehicles up the mountain and back, beleive me, but he is a handful(lovely and peaceful) but the Boss of the Farm. You get my drift?
So, please guys , I do not think taking dogs along could or should be considered. I trust you will understand and take into consideration everybody else.
Well, that said, lets look forward to a wonderful weekend and get hold of the Forms as soon as they appear and send them in to secure your spot.
Only 15 Vehicles guys , only 15.
The full programme will be made available soon on the Forms.
4x4 Greetings.
Louis Rolbos.

Everybody who indicated that they are going to Boegoeberg please take note that we will be doing thigs differently this time.

Louis Rolbos created a very professional plan for the weekend. You can download the document below which gives you all the details about the trail and also the program for the weekend.

As we can only book 15 vehicles and it would be unfair towards the trail owner if only 5 pitch, we would like you to pay a deposit to secure your position. The club's new banking detail is in the attached document. There is a booking form in the document which you must complete and fax to us. We will take the deposits and pay it over to the trail owner.

So PLEASE, if you indicated that you are going please download and READ the document.

Hi Guys
Sorry, I am sooo late but I got married (... had 30 germans in my house the past 10 days!!) and before that had to fight Argus madness in my bikeshop.

Can I still come???

I haven´t been online lately and (mea culpa) haven´t yet attempted to go through the 227 unread messages in my email account !!!!!

Thanks and cheers

4x4 Groete
Louis

Louis says that apparently we can can make use of Boegoeberg's set menu on Saturday evening.

Could you please indicate if you would prefer being catered for or do you prefer your own braai.

The food will be a Snoek starter, Braaivleis as main course with 2 salads, bread and home made jam.
Price is R60 per adult, R40 per child under 10 and children under 5 get it for free.
