Hi
Does any one use the Nuvi 500 with T4A ? A while back there was some thread about the need to switch off some function on the GPS or T4A does not work properly ?
I would like to get a 500 and use it with T4A. Dont want to buy if these two will not work together.

Hi, as I understand it, you can only run 1 application at a time. So you need to just select T4A in the main menu. Running streetmaps and t4a at the same time overlaps.
Give T4A a call, they will explain it to you

Howsit
This is exactly what i do on my 215w
You load your T4A maps and your garmaps that you want.
Then when you turn on go into settings, map, about. In here you will see the maps that are loaded and you can simply tick and untick the relevant ones.
You can only run 1 at a time as mark says, if you try the 2 together you will have problems.
Hope that helps
cheers

Ok but what about this issue ?
Family_Dog wrote:The Nuvi 500 is a nice unit and should be fine for your needs. Most importantly, if you wish to submit tracks to Garmin ior Tracks 4 Africa for consideration, you need a unit that can disable the "Lock to track" function. Andy can probably confirm whether the Nuvi 500 has this option or not.

Re: Garmin Nuvi500 with T4A
Yes my nuvi 215 can be turned to "off road".
Also my nuvi 215w, which is not meant to be able to track off road does it perfectly.
Apparently some of the later modelsof 200w's 215w's are refered to as "on steroids" by the garmap community and can do this.
Interestingly i heard that cape union have a special on 205's for R1299! That is ridiculously cheap for a unit that can run T4A etc!
