George ek dink die manne praat hier meer van jou odometer se lesing. Tipies is jou odo spot on uit die fabriek uit, groter bande maak hom pessimisties.

Towed Yesterday a 1.5Ton braked axle trailer to Pretoria and back with headwind there and back. Came back with heavy load (Old Solid wood Cabinets, Fridges and a full canopy load back, with 3 people on board. Cabinets was about almost 700 mm higher than my raised roof canopy.
Towed all the way between 95 km/h - 120 km/h. Ave fuel Consumption for the trip worked out to 6 km/l.
I think the old 4Y is still one of the best motors around, even though it might be a bit underpowered for the SFA when towing heavy loads.

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
part of the problem when it comes to fuel consumption on 4y i believe, rests with the emmisions control computer.. it is over calibrated and hence waist lots of fuel whenever engine is below 2200 rpm...simple modification can change this.....8.6km/l town driving

I don't know of any RSA 4y Hilux's that any form of emission control. If yours has, then it's not a local model.gasoline wrote:part of the problem when it comes to fuel consumption on 4y i believe, rests with the emmisions control computer.. it is over calibrated and hence waist lots of fuel whenever engine is below 2200 rpm...simple modification can change this.....8.6km/l town driving
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
Can we add a section for driving conditions as most of us don't use a full tank just in the town or highways?
My Lux used 14.5L per 100km this included highway dringing, offroad driving (trials) aswell as town driving in heavy traffic is this good or bad?

Canopy?: nope
Other Mods?: Bash-plate, LR Tank and extra diesel filter
CONSUMPTION: Average over the equivalent of 43 fill ups (+-70 L when empty light goes on) & +-31,500km = 10.6 KM/L
This represents mainly town driving and open highways. My worst was 8.43 km/l and the best was 12.42 km/l. In my experience (no brand bashing) I receive the best fuel consumption when using Total. I have tried Sasol and BP, it was okay - 9.3 ~ 9.7 KM/L. Engen & Excel (albeit 500ppm) gave me closer to 8.7KM/L. I have not yet tested Shell.

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
I just did a round trip to PE with Talula (2001 2700i SRX 4x4 D/C)....I was astinished at the consumption achieved! At a steady 90-105kph she gave me 9.4km/l fully loaded! This included 20 odd fishing rods strapped to the roof and the bak loaded FULL of fishing kit! We then needed to make up some time so the second part of the journey was between 120 and 140kph and she still manged to give around 7,8km/l! On the way back I drove her the first stint and she picked up her skirt and hauled ass to catch up the convoy average between 130 and 150 and she still gave me 7,5km/l with a full load!
She has had the head flowed and ported, cam cut and fuel pressure regulator modified and freeflow from dick bates in Salt river. SACS did the engine mods (before I bought the car, I found the note in the service manual with job card number and called them to confirm work done) and say it is good for 125kw.....I cannot confirm without a Dyno run and love my baby too much too put her through that!

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
hilux 4y will be heavy on fuel because the carb's idel jet is governed electronically to only shut off after 2250rpm, so even at cruising speeds where you are below this rev limit the idel jet is supplying extra fuel.i disconected the little computer that switches the jet off and on!
fuel consumption before mod.-6km/l
after mod 8.5km/l town driving

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
Ek het in 2012 my 22R laat EFI. Dis 'n paar keer ingestel en "ge-dino".
In stedelike verkeer kry ek 6 km/l.
Dié vakansie was ek Stilbaai toe en het grondpaaie gery so veel as moontlik en nooit vinniger as 100 km/h nie (GPS spoed).
Die verbruik was nooit meer as 6.4km/l nie.
Voor die EFI het ek tot 7km/l gekry.
Vanuit 'n brandstofverbruik oogpunt lyk dit nie of die EFI die moeite werd is nie.

I have to mention the following: the fitment of the 31" tyres gave me an almost 100% accurate speed and distance reading (checked against GPS reading). Before the fitment the speedo reading was about 10% higher than the actual reading. My consumption remained more or less the same with the fitment of the larger tyres (taking the error in reading etc into consideration). The Powerflow upgrade gave me a saving of approximately 1l/100km or approximately 0.5km/l. The best consumption I was able to record was 9.5km/l or10.5l/100km (I swear, I double checked distance and that the tank had in fact been filled to the brim)!!! This record consumption was at an average speed of 90km/h, but fully loaded with roof-rack in place. Worst consumption was 2.85km/l or 35l/100km But still on smaller tyres, no Powerflow and 80% driving in riverbeds, partly wet, mostly dry; nonetheless, revs had to be kept up (anything higher 3500rpm) to avoid getting stuck... Now with the larger tyres and powerflow upgrade, the consumption should be considerably less; so far I could only feel the improvement driving in thick sand, but covered too small a distance for a fair comparison.

I have to mention the following: the fitment of the 31" tyres gave me an almost 100% accurate speed and distance reading (checked against GPS reading). Excellent, Johan. Specs very similar to Bulldog so hopefully I will expect much the same on a long trip.

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
I have made some changes since this post. My Hilux has had Cooper STT's fitted, 31 inch. Immediately the fuel consumption went out of the window! I was averaging around 7,8km/l an it dropped to about 7, or just under, I have a log book but the spreaddsheet only gives an overall average for the past 6 months (7,29km/l). Goch & Cooper have recently chipped and Dyno'd her. She now pushed 112kw and has a majorly flattened Torque curve, huge gains low down! She is currently at Burnco for a bumper to bumper rust removal and respray so I cannot give a figure on what the dino tune and chip have done. I can say she ran much better on a trip to Struisbaai just before she went in to Burnco. She did seem to use less fuel than usual for the up and down trip and overtaking was a breeze. I could easily cruise at 140 and have plenty left to pull an overtaking manouvre when required.Sylvester wrote:Hi Guys
I just ran my lux ('01 2700i D/C 4x4) up to Arniston and it returned great figures of 8,3km/l. I had my Fibreglass canopy on for the run but did not have my usual 4 rods and a gaff on the roof and I'm sure the lack of the resistance from the rods helped. My cruising speed was much higher than usual though running between 100(up the hills) and 120 and even managed to hit 150 on one flat section while opening the taps just for the hell of it, and there was still plenty left under the right foot!!

Dankie, Hangover. Ek was nie seker of dit 'n Lexus is nie. As jy na die brandstof verbruik kyk is dit dieselfde as die V6 engin.

What does the fuel pressure regulator modification on the 2700i entail?Sylvester wrote:I just did a round trip to PE with Talula (2001 2700i SRX 4x4 D/C)....I was astinished at the consumption achieved!
She has had the head flowed and ported, cam cut and fuel pressure regulator modified and freeflow from d**k bates in Salt river. SACS did the engine mods (before I bought the car, I found the note in the service manual with job card number and called them to confirm work done) and say it is good for 125kw.....I cannot confirm without a Dyno run and love my baby too much too put her through that!

Re: The fuel consumption of my Hilux
I have no idea, SAC did that before I owned the bakkie. I assume to give more fuel pressure.Chops wrote:What does the fuel pressure regulator modification on the 2700i entail?Sylvester wrote:I just did a round trip to PE with Talula (2001 2700i SRX 4x4 D/C)....I was astinished at the consumption achieved!
