Trekoskraal Clean Up

Post by pietpetoors »

We are planning a weekend to go clean Trekoskraal which is situated between Vredenburg and Paternoster.
I already got permission from the land owner. Our biggest challenge now is to find a suitable date.
Niel will be there this weekend (3 Oct) but I will be at the NSRI day.

This does not mean that the rest of the crowd can still go this weekend.

Are there anybody interested in going this coming weekend?

17th October would be good

Surely the sand mites could forsake their dune bashing that day considering they are getting their fill at the 4WDC Event at Atlantis on the 31st :?:

Strange... I heard the Sharks won with a bonus point, and WP won, but couldn't bet the BP, this coming weekend... and therefore the final is at the Shark Tank... :?

As more 'n dag soos vandag is gaan ons lekker kreefies uithaal.

You don't have to book to camp there Shaakir, seeing that it is not an official camp site! It is how ever advised that if you
plan to stay there for more than 3 days and it is above the high water mark, that you ask the farm owner!!

I have however never asked permission cause I camp close to the sea and the other good thing is, you don't have to pay to
camp there, just clean up after yourselve, respect nature and drive slowly!!!!

Directions:About 5km from Vredenburg on your way to Paternoster there is a turn-off LEFT, Trekoskraal, onto a gravel road!
Keep straight on that gravel road untill you pass over a cattle drif gate! The area itself is quite big and there is alot
of exploring you can do, just make sure to deflate your tyres to about 1.3bar!

There are some spots where you will need to deflate see pics.

Just remember that the wind keep shifting the sand in a certain section of the roads where 4x4 is required. There is new "tracks being created that you can drive a normal plaasbakkie - but this is towards the dune section.

I do not agree with creating new tracks all the time for obvious reasons.

Jip, your right Niel, a sedan and normal plaas bakkie can go there! It is not required to deflate, but it makes the driving so much
better plus, as you mentioned, the wind shifts the sand alot and a road that was hard today can be blown full of sand tomorow,
this I have seen numerous times! I just like beeing prepared thats all and I know the place really well and know that where I
am going I need to deflate, especially if your going to what we locals call "Die sand gat"! From your pics I can see that is also
where you went!

The reason I mentioned to Shaakir to deflate is that he has never been there and he could easily take a wrong turn, then it's
to late to deflate!! Hey, that rhimes!!! :D: Also, the main access road is very rocky and bumpy!!

It also helps the to deflate as harder tire pressures also deteriorate the condition of the road - more corrugated

Jip, to drive zinkplaat pad is not leke with hard tyres, espesially when you go around corners the backside becomes very loose
and then some serious counter steering and driving skill comes into play!!! My PO hates it when I let the back slide a bit!

Not to sure about "Die Geut" Niel, also doubt if we have the same area in mind! The one I know of, a few friends went and cut
the fence between 2 posts so that they could get through with their beach buggy. Don't know if the gap is still there. Which
Geut are you talking about Niel?

Die geut is an old crayfish diving spot once on the other side of "long beach" on the way to the holiday houses. Well that was while you could still drive on the beach. No I can not find a road to the houses from the trekos side.

OK, yes we have the same place in mind. Nature took those roads away a long time ago with wind and sand, not that they
were roads in the 1st place to begin with. I have heard of some guys taking their quads to Trekos and then loading their gear
on the back to go dive there, not even a beach buggy can make that trip. My dad told me that when he was in the SAP stationed
in Vredenburg back in the days, they used those roads to patrol for poachers and one of his fellow officers have even died
there once, had an accident on a dune with his Police off-road bike!

Niel, we must stop hijacking Pieter's thread hey!!
