Mokala National Park
We visited Mokala in Aug this year and I must say it was a very nice experience. The staff was friendly and very helpful.
General info on this park:
• SANPARKS have acquired additional land and are in the process of fencing it. The park gate is remote controlled and guest have to announce their arrival and departure,
• They are planning to introduce cheetah during 2010,
• The approximate price for this privately owned game farm was R 95 mil
Mosu Lodge
This is the mail lodge and also the most popular camp as far as number of visitors are concerned
Accommodation
Luxury Executive Suites (2 units),
Self Catering (braai, micro wave, two plate stove, fridge, utensils, cutlery & crockery),
One Bedroom with double bed with electric blanket,
WC, shower, bath, hand basin,
Fire place and air conditioner.
Semi Luxury Rooms (13 units) ,
Non-self catering (only electric kettle, no braai area, no fridge)
One Bedroom with two single beds,
WC and shower, hand basin,
Wall-fitted heater and ceiling fan.
Notes: you have to carry or push a trolley with your luggage to the suite/rooms.
Mosu Lodge and Mofele Lodge are approximately 3 km apart and are separated by a large hill.
This is the fancier lodge of the two.
Mofele Lodge
Accommodation
Semi Luxury Rooms (9 units),
Non-self Catering (only electric kettle, no braai area, no fridge),
One Bedroom with two / three / four or five single beds,
WC and shower, hand basin,
Ceiling fans.
Notes: This lodge is better for self catering and when I return will rather stay here as the little ones can run on the lush green lawn ……
The one thing that put me off the lodge was that some of the staff members stayed at the lodge and some of the staff stayed in view from the lodge. There are more options as far as number of beds per room is concerned. It is fully equipped but the restaurant was closed on our visit and there were no guest in the lodge. It also caters for team builds ….
Haak-en-Steek Camp
Rustic Cottage (1 unit),
Self Catering (braai facility in lapa, gas stove & oven, gas fridge / freezer, kitchen, utensils, cutlery & crockery),
Two sleeping areas (divided by wall), one double bed in open kitchen area, 2 single beds,
WC, shower and hand basin,
No electricity, no air conditioner,
Rustic Camping (5 sites)
Braai facilities in lapa, no electricity, gas geysers, no kitchen or cooking facilities, ablutions communal.
Notes: This camp is a must visit according to me and is very basic and depend on 12 solar panels for electricity and has a huge water hole 60m away. This camp is in the middle of nowhere and approximately 12km by road from Muso and or Mofele.
The animals in this park are very anxious when vehicles approach but you can see a lot of different game on a self drive.

Re: Mokala National Park
Harold, the turnoff to Mokala is is approx 60 km from Kimberley on the n12 when traveling from Kimberley to Cape Town. Then there is a 21km gravel road that takes you to the Main gate. Then it is 5 km to Muso Lodge

Re: Mokala National Park
Forgot to mention that the roads are drivable by sedan but there are some places (4 or 5) where the rocks might bump the undercarriage and in winter there are a few places where the mud will be problem for a sedan .
Attached the map that was provided of the roads in the park.
Second attachment is the animals found in the park

Re: Mokala National Park
I was told by the workers that snakes become a problem in the warmer months as specially around Mofele Lodge.

Re: Mokala National Park
saw this on the wild news letter
On your next trip between Gauteng and Cape Town, why not go via Kimberley and break your journey at Mokala National Park? You'll bypass the holiday rush and expensive tolls of the N1, plus Mokala is offering discounts on accommodation from 5 October until the end of November. Lilydale Lodge's units are a steal at only R368 for two people. Mosu Lodge is offering 15% discount on luxury chalets, 25% on semi-luxury units.
For Lilydale bookings call 053 204 0158 or 053 204 8000. To book Mosu Lodge call 012 428 9111.

Re: Mokala National Park
Best of all, then you have to drive through Klerksdorp and it will be a compulsory "Hello!" stop!
