TOUR TO CENTRAL KALAHARI DEC 2009
I am planning to tour the Central Kalahari and North Western Botswana in December 2009, and would like to know whether anyone is interested in joining us. Will be departing from Krugersdorp +- 12/12/09, up to Khutze then through the Kalahari up to Ghanzi, Drotsky's Caves and Tsodilo Hills. Dink dit kan net lekker wees met 'n klomp Lux's saam! Groete Doug

Re: TOUR TO CENTRAL KALAHARI DEC 2009
I am thinking of leaving +- 12 December for about three weeks (flexible)
Re: TOUR TO CENTRAL KALAHARI DEC 2009
Up to Tsodilo Hills approx. 1500km, then which way back? Via Namibia / Kaudum, same route back or via Francistown.
We have not been to Drotski's cave and Tsodilo Hills, have you been or know what is there? Besides beautiful scenary

I haven't been further than Khutze myself, but have quite a bit of literature and maps on the planned route. The return route still to be finalised, can be via Namibia or Francistown.

Hi Doug,
is the daytime temperatures not unbearable that time of the year down that neck of the woods? And do you consider spending some time in the Chobe on your way back? Great place hey.. And your ideas for overnight stay? Campsites en route right? pre-book? I'm also opting a bit between possibly something like this and Moz.

Hi Louis & Hennie - Temperature at that time of year can be high, but not really unbearable. No definite route has been planned from Drosky's onwards. I am open to suggestions and Chobe could be a viable option. I havent made any bookings as I have found that not too people tour at that time of year. Groete Doug

Re: TOUR TO CENTRAL KALAHARI DEC 2009
Bots Parks have (last week) increased their camping fees up to stupit amounts. They are trying to stop all self guided trips. For the locals camping prices have increased from P50 to P150 (Moremi), and for us camping at eg Savuti has gone up to US $50 pppn, plus parks entry fees plus vehicle fees. As awesome as Bots is you may want to reconsider your trip... I'm told that Zimbabwe is looking great at the moment and plenty fuel available!!!

Mike, lekker man.
The Zimbos option sounds fresh. After not being really one for quite some years since.
If you have any more info & updates on current conditions, fuel costs, conditions of parks and camps, disease prevalence if any, recommended routes, anything, let us all now here..!

Re: TOUR TO CENTRAL KALAHARI DEC 2009
Sorry Doug, not hijacking your post
Hi Mike, we were in Zim in Dec '08. The B&B's still running are well kept and very reasonable (old Zim style and good food)
The ZA Rand is accepted as their local currency and the Spar was stocked with everything from choclate to fresh cut bread.
Lots of police roadblocks and the Beit Bridge border post....no comment
People were very friendly and helpful in general
We are planning a trip to Mana Pools in March 2010, see viewtopic.php?f=51&t=8831
I will post further info if you require.
Regards
