well very seldom that I get to post here these days,have been sleeping like a baby!!

not sure what is u[ this morning, been up since just after 12, amd nothing seems to help!!

any case 740 radiator fits, bottom mounts in and working,what a mission!!
now just the top mounting and the hoses!!

one step closer,and one less thing to do when the conversion happens!!
getting closer!!
so is our holiday!!!!

Hi Guys, I'm new here, great to read all your posts. I have had tremendous input from you guys. Bought an old Hilux 1996 4x4 . Was 2.4 D, crank siezed and some other problems. To cut a long expensisve story short, now have 2.2 import with the 3rd cheapy carb it came with. So far so good, loaded around 1 ton today(including my weight and passanger) and drove responsibly. (used my gears!!!) Felt ok. Really want to get the Original Weber carb from Spain when I get more cash. Any idea where I can get one and what it will cost? Or are some of these cheap carbs ok? this is the 3rd one I got, so kind of lost faith......any ideas welcome.....cheers and thanks Bob

Welcome to the forum, Mark!!

Those 'cheapy' carbs are reported to be problematic. The original carb for the 2.2 (4Y) motor is a Nikki carb, not a Weber. I think the model is a GL7, or something like that. The Weber tends to starve or flood on steeper inclines while the Nikki is more suited to that kind of thing (off-roading). You should be able to pick one up from a breaker's yard, or from one of the guys that has done an EFI conversion on their motor. I'm sure you will find one without too much trouble. (AFAIK service kits are still available too.)

Alternatively, you can go the EFI route yourself .... a bit pricey, but will give you extra power and improved fuel economy.

I believe the Nikki was used on the 2Y/3Y, and the 4Y had an Aisan unit fitted... until people started whopping of course...

The last time I checked(about 3 years ago) you could get an original Aisan carb for the 4Y for around R5000(from Toyota)... seems expensive at first, but when compared to a Weber @ R3500... and an EFi conversion @ R13000... it doesn't seem so bad!

well as is the norm, when exited me dont sleep so well,and one of the benefits of being awake this time of the morning is posting here!!

today will be the 1st open road trip with the jeep, with out towing!!

look forward to seeing what is the fuel consumption with out towing!!

well been quiet a while since I was awake this time of day!!

lately been hectic, wildly hectic and yesterday was just the pits!! to the point where the start of the lexus conversion has again been delayed!! might now only get a gap around Feb 2011, and due to work might be moved on yet again after that!! already know that end of March will be the start of another huge project at work!! so maybe towards the end of may me will get started!!! :evil: :evil:

so by 10pm was every thing off including myself!!
and so am awake!!

so lets see if I can cheer up soon!!
