I want to install a limited slip differential into my '03 hilux 4x4. How do I identify which differential is in the truck. I want to replace the entire center section.

James, if your vehicle is anything like the RSA models, it probably has a factory fitted diff lock on the rear axle. That would be better than a LSD. The front is likely to be an open diff and fitting a LSD to the front makes sense to improve the vehicle's capability. You don't need to replace the whole 3rd member (what you refer to as the "centre portion"), just the carrier needs to be replaced.

If you don't have a rear locker and you're going to fit a LSD, then fitting it to the rear axle rather than to the front is the better option IMO. That way you get the benefit all the time, even in 2WD where in many cases you would find that you don't even need to engage the front diff. :winkx:
