Advice on buying 2nd hand
Hi guys.
Isn't this the best website ever? Anyway...
I'm looking at buying a 2005 2.5 D4D Single Cab 4x4 with 49000 km on the odo.
Can anyone please advise me on what to look out for, buying a pre owned 4x4?
Does anyone has anything against this 2.5 D4D motor? I currently have a 4x2 2.7 VVTi ( for sale), but I ABSOLUTELY
HATE THE FUEL CONSUMPTION of this, and I don't think I would ever consider another petrol bakkie again, except
if absolutely neccesary!
Looking forward to your comments

Heh, can't wait to see Bennie's reply on this one. He feels much the same way about diesels!but I ABSOLUTELY

There have been some good reports on this specific model, so might be an excellent choice.I'm looking at buying a 2005 2.5 D4D Single Cab 4x4 with 49000 km on the odo

Re: Advice on buying 2nd hand
Yip, that's the choice I'm going for now.....except for a new one. If things go my way, will be in the driveway within the month of Spring.
I've done some extensive investigating, and still can't find any serious problems with this engine. Those that own them, love them!!!!!!
I can't offer too much advice about what to look out for on a 2nd hand one, but it will still be covered by service plan and warenty.
If the price is right, go for it!

Re: Advice on buying 2nd hand
If I am correct, find out what the cost of the injectors are, I do not think they can be serviced, might be wrong, but in a merc that has a common rail, they cost a few thousand rands each.

Re: Advice on buying 2nd hand
Thanks.
Wish I could buy a new one, but the one I'm buying comes with L/R tank, snorkel, ARB replacement front and rear bumper
(not sure though if actually ARB or other) 16" Alloys with Cooper Tyres. This all for R50 000 les than a new bakkie,
not to even mention the extras' new costs.
I will find out about the injectors, but luckily the warranty and service plan is still valid for a while.
Will take photo's this weekend to show off my 4x4. I'm sure you'll all enjoy it
Thanks

Re: Advice on buying 2nd hand
Thx Cookie Monster
Where can I read more about the trip to magnetic north? Sounds interesting.
Harold, I heard that injectors for the VW Polo 1.9 tdi are R7500 a piece. My wife drives a Polo 1.9 tdi
Dunno if the guy who told me that is lying.

Re: Advice on buying 2nd hand
I agree I would never pay that for injectors my 320d is covered by motorplan However I have never heared of a D4D giving problems with injectors and one of my mates working at Toyota tells me he has seen a D4D 3l already with 350 000km with no problems so I wouldnt stress just make sure you fill up with sulpher free diesel :!:
