Knock when braking

My 2006 3.0 D4D has developed a knock when braking
It doesnt always do it but I am hoping someone else may have experienced the same thing and can point me in the right direction

Sometimes when I brake for a stop street or robot, I get one single knock from the front, sounds like something around the engine or possibly axle. Seems to only do it when there has been a longer run between robots and some decent speed.

One thing I have considered is possibly a damaged bush on an engine mount?

Hope someone can help me sort this one out

Hi Mike. Engine and gearbox mounts will only cause noises on acceleration and deceleration.

Noises on braking will be related to suspension, steering and braking components. Check the callipers, control arm bushes, idler arm, torsion bar bushes, ball joints and tie rods.

Well I say braking but its only a single knock and when there is a harder deceleration.

Still comes down to either, Controls arms, engine mounts

Thanks Andy,

Had something similar on Bulldog some years ago. Turned out to be a shock with a snapped rod, only apparent when upgrading the tired suspension to OME.
